Harpeth River

Not a lot posted about this river for any forum unless you are looking for a good beer floating trip with an inner tube. I put the sled in by Ashland City and ran the mouth all the way until I was seeing rocks under the boat last weekend. This is when it's nice to have a pump and not a prop.

Caught a good mess of small mouth (I'm not allowed to post pics because my wife said she did not like the way she looked in them). Hooked into a really nice striper and saw a good 40+ pounder swimming downstream right under the boat. I'm thinking this is a hidden gem that no one really talks about or maybe I stumbled onto something new?

Any one else given this system some time.

I've always had lots of luck in the Harpeth River and it's tributaries, especially on down towards I-40 and the narrows. There are fish in the upper reaches towards Franklin, but some of the sections that meander through agricultural areas and cow farms can get really slow, almost like a riverine pond. I've never had much luck in these areas, but anywhere with noticeable current and rock will usually produce a few brown fish or redeye. Crawfish patterned soft plastics are my go-to.

Some of the tribs have HUGE numbers of Buffalo fish that hang out near the mouth. On a trip back in April, we paddled up a creek to a take-out point, and literally saw dozens upon dozens Buffalo zipping out underneath us. Wish I had a bow-fishing outfit!

I agree with Jay, but I am a wader. I use ultralights; usually, occasionally a fly rod. I have had a ball catching pan fish and smallies.

I used to wade fish the harpeth. I now kayak fish and was wondering a good spot that I could put in and catch some smallmouth in the harpeth?

Ashland city HWY bridge and you can paddle upstream pretty easily to find fish. Probably don't have to go more than a mile to find all the fishing you can handle.

Twin Creek RD. would be the other option if you want to go up a little further

Speaking of the Harpeth...I've wanted to fish it for years and never have. Where would you guys recommend I go for access. I would be wading and fly fishing for no particular species.

Is that the harpeth? Where you were talking about haha. I think the bigger river below that is the Cumberland isn't it?
