I am sorry for being so late posting this on here. A lot has been going on with family and friends.
I went fishing on Sept, 27 and the 30th. This is the first fishing trip since the first week of May. Needless to say I was ready and pumped for a day fishing the grass on Kentucky Lake. The morning was calm and quiet. Not many boats out running around. It seems to be the perfect day. We ran a short distance to the first grass bed. It was roughly the size of a football field except it was pointed on the ends. the bass were all over my ribbit frog. My friend was throwing a scum frog. He fished it much slower than I was fishing the ribbit. He fished the " twitch-twitch-pop-pause method. Stopping on the edge of the grass line. He was getting a lot of nudges but nothing was biting for him. On the other hand I was fishing a straight line retrieve and getting hammered. The bass were running my ribbit down and jumping all over it. some would jump out of the water and land on top of it.
We tried several beds that day and fished a lot of long straight runs near deep water. The best pattern was....fish the ends of the grass. they seem to like the scattered grass and we took very little near the matted grass. We did not have a strike in the matted grass in two days of fishing. I think fishing the points with grass would have been the best pattern. We had a lot of bass running from 2 to 3 lbs. I had a couple pigs explode on my bait but no hook-ups.
We went again Sunday. Same type of weather cloudy and calm. The wind had changed to the east northeast. We fished the same spots with not much luck. I tried flipping a 1 oz brushog in the grass. nothing, a swim bait...one little tap. So we stayed with the frog the rest of the day. We tried some different water and found some fish at the back of some cuts where the open water ended. Mid day the wind calmed and the bite picked up some. We ended Sunday where we started Thursday. not a bite....nada.
Overall we had maybe 40 on Thursday and about 30 on Sunday. Both days we had pigs explode on our frogs but we never landed anything over 3 lbs.
Took no pics of the fish but I did catch the sunrise both days.
The pics here are sunrise on Sunday morning and my friend picking me up at the dock.
