Thunderstorms Tomorrow - Any Ideas?

I have the day off tomorrow and was considering taking my kayak down the Caney. The forecast calls for thunderstorms, unfortunately, and I'm not sure I want to be caught out on the river (again) with lightening.

Maybe it would be better to stick with a lake; that way, I can easily get back to shore if things get unsafe.

It's hard to know when to trust weather forecasts. I think I might be "fishing" for encouragement to fish in spite of the storms.

My son and I floated Monday from Betty's Island to Gordonsville. Only problem we did not get to fish. Thirty minutes into the trip we had to paddle for 3 straight hours on account of lightning. I tried to convince him we should do another day but he thought they would not get to us until about two in the afternoon. On days when it might or might not storm I try to find some place I can get back to vehicle quick or am around a building close. Can't deal with the lightning.

Only two things in this world I'm scared of birds(long story) and lightening. I curl up fetal like with both. An absolute morbid fear of each.

I kick boxed for 18 years, never got KOd or even rocked. We used to have a wood privacy fence and tore down to but up black metal on property line. Previously it was a good 20' inside property line.

When we tore it down we couldn't get the line poles out so my Dad and I used my chainsaw and cut them down low enough for the mower to go over. A couple stick up because the concrete is high.

Son and I camped in backyard from Thursday thru Sunday and it looked like rain Monday so I start tearing down the tent. Lightening starts cracking all around and bottom drops out. I take off running scared in wet grass. Feet went up in the air and the base of my skull landed on the wood and concrete of where a pole was.

I remember falling around noon but have no memory until about 6-7PM. My wife said I thought it was 2008, Bush was president and I didn't know our 2yr old daughter.

Never been rattled like that!

My dad is repairing a guys house where the lightning came up the back corner of the house cracking the brick and eventually blowing out the whole back side of the chimney on its way out.

It's not something to play with...

There are fish to be caught and you have plenty of bridges to take cover under or at least flip the yak over you until it passes. Just be safe/smart it's 60% chance of scattered not 100% and definite all day.
