Striper feeding frenzy

I am sure you are all wanting to hear a report of a feeding frenzy i found...sorry. But I have been in the south for about a year now and have not seeing anything like this yet. I know this is in the saltwater in Delaware, but have any of you seen this in the reservoirs or rivers in TN? I want to come across something like this real bad!!

me and a friend were at cordell hull lake years back around hurricane creek saw topwater fiasco 20 times bigger than that video. looked like someone was shooting a gatling gun into the water. when we motored to the spot they were done gone.

Below Pickwick Dam for the next 2 to 3 months...maybe even a little longer.....you can see that go on almost every evening just right before sunset. But take note....the Stripers below that dam are in the 5 to 20 pound range...with Stripers in the 10 to 16 pound range very common. But there has to be thousands there. With a few exceptions they will show up just right before dark. They may be there 15 minutes or two or three hours.

I remember you saying that last year. I made the drive there one day and unfortunately the one day that I went there, it was dead calm, and hot and I stayed until completely dark and the water was motionless and fishless! Guess i will have to try again this year!

They are there. It is hard to predict when you will have those off days. Even going out with an experienced guide for any specie and getting on the fish on the day you wanted to go is tough. That is why most guides I know suggest you book more than one day to try to bag some fish. The Stripers are there again this year. I just have not fished for them. I have been going down way too early to fish for Smallies and Large Mouth and trying to fish all day...just can't hang that long in the heat anymore. After walking back up the rocks from maybe 3 locations I fished that day it was hard to sit in the parking lot..having my supper... as I watch those things bust the water. But I just did not have the energy or will for one more climb...LOL. Will float the Caney Monday with my son and I hope to get to Pickwick a few days after but not arrive until maybe five in the afternoon and try to get in on some Striper frenzy. Last year my son made a trip down with me and finally got his first Striper...he caught a lot that day and it was something to see. Fish after fish just pulling drag and him just holding on..LOL. Makes a father feel good he can still give his kids some fun.

Good luck on the caney on Monday! I look forward to hearing your report! Now that I have a job that allows me to make it to pickwick by 4ish on weekdays, maybe we can meet there sometime! Would be great to meet you and fish along side you and catch some whites and stripers!

I was at the Stonewall access area in the Caney one afternoon when they had just released a bunch of stockers and apparently that was ringing the dinner bell for stripers. That whole area in front of the ramp looked like that video. It was insane and it was definitely stripers because I saw a couple of them get up close to the bank to blast a school of confused stocker trout. At that time, I really didn't have any lures stripers would bite but I tried the biggest stuff I had to no avail. It sure was exciting to watch!

I have seen the fish in the jumps at J. Percy Priest many times about this time of year. Lots of fun catching fish on almost every cast. Size varies as does type of fish. White (Stripe) bass, lmouth, hybrids (Cherokee Bass) and then the yellow bass. Sometimes even a crappie.

Should be happening now in the early mornings about 5am and late afternoons. Does not usually last long except sometimes on a cloudy overcast day. Remember those?

What does in the jumps mean?

"The Jumps" means when they are boiling on the surface topwater feeding, balling the bait up and slamming them. Can be anything, largemouth, white bass, striper doesn't matter. You'll see them blasting on the surface and race over there, may get lucky and get a cast or two out, then they're gone and popping up again another 200 yards away.

I just learned something new :) All this time I thought "the jumps" meant the strong water being generated right at the gates.
