Finally got into some Gills today. Started fishing at around noon.....did not catch any until 4:30. Then I caught 30 straight. All were about 1/2 pound. Would have stayed until dark but started too early and was pooped...LOL. Usually at Laurel Hill Gills can be caught any time during the day...but not this year. So I think when fishing there will try to go either very early or be there at around 5:30 in the afternoon to start.

Good work, that's hardcore fishing in that heat. Be careful drink plenty of water, and protect you skin from direct sunlight.

Thanks for the thought. Working in Saudi for 21 years taught me plenty about the heat. If I had to be at the site at seven in the morning I would get up at 4:00 in the morning to start consuming fluids before getting out in the heat. In heat that would range from 105 to 120 those of us outside would consume literally gallons of water a day. We fished at night there but would do 36 holes of golf walking on weekends. But I left there in 2001....little bit older now...LOL. One thing you remind me of that I don't do is faithfully use sunscreen. You are right...I do need to use it everyday. Getting ready to hit a lake somewhere now and your post hit home to put it on before heading out and keep reapplying...thanks.

Nice going Alpha. You are what I would call a dedicated fisherman. I live for checking out this site every morning (while I'm sitting at my desk at work, btw LOL) to see what you or one of the other members caught.
Some day!

Yeah, I would say you know a thing or two about the heat. Good luck, I think I'm going to start fishing more at night. I used to work in the field, but have had a job in the office since 2004, and have gotten used to the 65 deg temps all year round.

I work outside, and I am not spending my fishing time suffering in high humidity/temperature...which is why the vast majority of my summer fishing is at night. Plus, I feel the fishing is better for the species I chase.

I am another night owl mainly due to the kids schedule of when I can get out. But I have definitely grown to like it. It doesn't matter the species or time of year as I have been known to wade fish at night in the winter.
