Good fish guys! Like the fashionable orange lifejacket too. Lol. I bass fish at night all the time but have never given trout a thought at night. Judging from your pics, I need to give it a try.

Hey Travis,

I have a night time bite you may be interested in. An 8 wt fly rod and a few top secret, super special flies are all you need...and one other component, but I'll keep that mum until I talk to you.

There were a bunch of yaks and bank fisherman below the dam tonight. My gf caught a couple trout around 12" . They were kinda brown with light colored tan spots!! I don't have a clue about trout.

Also went last night and floated from the dam to happy. Started at sunset, fished the dam until dark and then went to happy. Fished until 3 am. We had several trout from 18-21" and lost a mid twenties and had one on that I couldn't stop...on its second jump it shook the lure. Sounded like a bowling ball hitting the water as it landed. Too dark to see it. WAS BIG! Also missed several hits. First time doing a night float! Fun stuff!

I probably saw you there. We came down on the bank and fished from around 7-930 pm. My buddy caught 5 good Crappie there earlier in the week!! That trout fishing is kinda fun!!!

Yeah I saw three or four show up at dark along with a couple little john boats that were already there!! I like that cool air down there.

I second that motion

crankbaits,jerbaits and spinners.

Those are productive but not the most fun. If I am not fly fishing for them then I will be throwing your typical jerkbaits and the most fun in my opinion Pop-R's, Torpedos, or Skitter Pops

Try one next night out. Don't "pop" the bait or jerk. Instead all you do is a painfully slow retreive creating a "V" wake with the lure. I have had fish come completely out of the water hitting it. The browns will crush it like a bass under lilly pads on a frog. ;)

This one was a Pop-R eater last fall.

On the buggy whip, a foam bodied mouse pattern can be a blast. You get to deal with the fight entirely by hand, unless the brown is a bruiser that gets on the reel. I also like deer hair bugs, but foam floats better and is easier to cast. Since I tie most of my own flies, I like the ease of use that comes with tying foam flies as opposed to spinning deer hair.

A buddy of mine also fishes big zonker style rabbit strip patterns in black the threads a foam popper body on backwards similiar to a T-rigged worm. The body keeps it up and the hair gives great action. If no bite on top he'll take it off and use same fly as a standard streamer.
