Spent the day at VFW Lake today. When I got there a friend of mine was leaving. He fishes the Trout Magnet also but only had 3 Gills and 5 big Cats. Catfish can really hit on the Magnet this time of year. I paddled the whole lake...several times. No Gills to be had...at least not for today. I paddled into a cove and I knew when I got the hit it was not a Gill. I caught 20 of these Catfish out of that one spot. All of the same year class I guess. Sure was fun though...hooking them on 2# test. Today really showed me why I need a sonar. VFW is a deep lake. Now that I am fishing out of a kayak I feel I am fishing blind on some days...such as today. My friend was the only person on the lake today. The weather was great and I really enjoyed it. Will be out somewhere again tomorrow. Sore Lip'EM All.

Nice healthy looking cats. I bet catching a bunch of them was fun.

Yeah it was a lot of fun. VFW and Laurel Hill...more so...are full of Catfish. I no longer have the gear to fish for them but catching them that size on light tackle is a hoot.

I went to Marrowbone lake last year in my kayak and got into several catfish on an inline spinner. Those "skillet" sized catfish are a lot of fun to catch on ultralight tackle.
Like the color on your Coosa by the way.

Haven't been to Marrowbone in years. I have caught catfish off and on with lures...especially in the Spring...but for whatever the reason they really love the Trout Magnet. The guys at Laurel Hill catch them quite often with that lure. While a lot of fun they really mess up my 2# line. Usually have to retie after catching one. But it sure saved my day as I was about to get skunked...LOL. Thanks for your comment about my Coosa. I really like the color also. I get a lot of looks and comments from people. I think part of that comes from the fact it is different looking than other kayaks...with that big bow. I don't have many kayak skills but I have had the boat in the water 44 days since 28 March. I have scratched it up pretty good on the bottom but in reading on kayak forums people are told not to obsess about the scratches...LOL....if you use it that is part of it.
