Anyone catching any catfish on Old Hickory lately? Going to take the neighbor kid and his father this weekend. I'm normally trying to catch bass, but it slowed down a lot last weekend. I'm concerned bass fishing may bore them and I'm hoping to make it as exciting as possible for the young one. Any advise on where to look for the cat's Saturday morning would be great.
I have caught a few on Drake's creek lately on the edges of flats early and late.
I don't know that the action would be fast enough to keep a kid excited if he's new to fishing though.
Honestly I usually stick with bluegill and other panfish if I want to keep things active for teaching a kid to fish.

Right now during the day the catfish are in deep creek channels or the river ledges. They are moving into the shallows and flats and at dawn to feed. A great channel cat spot is Spencer creek in the creek channel. Get you some skipjack (Catfish Candy), cut shad and gills work also.

Thanks for the info on Spencer creek, but the more I think about it. I'll probably take bd's advice and find him some bluegill. It will keep him busy.
Thanks for the help
