There had been some mention and interest in a gathering, I would be willing to head this up and have it on Old Hickory lake. If you are interested please show by replying to this post and when I see that we have enough interest then we could set a date and time.

I would have an empty spot in my boat and wouldn't care what we were fishing for. I'd go just for the fun of it and to meet all the guys on the forum.
Since I am probably the worst fisherman on the forum my feelings won't be crushed by losing.

There is also Lone Branch on Benders Ferry in Mount Juliet. It has a big parkin lot, covered picnic tables. Laguardo is a really nice place but i'm afraid it would be extremely busy and if i remember right you have to pay to get in.
Although, Laguardo would probably be the easiest for other members not familiar with the area to find.

I will make it if I can. It will depend on the date. Even if I can't get a full day to fish, maybe I can make an appearance for the food and hanging out afterward.
TK, if I can make it, you should bring a flat top guitar - maybe we can pick a little.

He has already rebuilt my carbs the first time and just diagnosed and changed my voltage reg and a bad tac. First time I had it back in 4 days the second trip I had it back in three days.
Some might not like him but he has more experience than most around here. He also knows what he is doing. Many of the guys I work with as Well as old guys that have spent a lot of time on the water referred me to him!!

Or just fish for fun!I knew this was a plan to milk us for our money. LOL, mine anyway. I think there are so many people fishing for dif species here that it would be hard to come up with what defines the winner. Total weight-Catfisherman, total numbers-Alphahawk. It would have to be kinda creative to include pan-fisherman, newbies, trout fisherman and other odd balls like myself. But seriously, I would spring 10 bucks just to enjoy the show.

I'm all about money on the competition... but I'm afraid entry fees will scare people away. As mentioned before it would be hard to decide what species were more important than others. When I tried for the collegiate tour I remember doing a benefit and everyone brought their favorite lure or line or accessory "new in box" and put them together. Then at the end of the day they were divided up on superlatives... like smallest fish, biggest fish, ugliest fish, weirdest catch... things like that. Everyone had a kid with them so it was a little different but it was a blast! Maybe we could try something like this but with $5 gift cards... or favorite lures etc.
Just an idea.... I'm just rambling b/c I'm excited about this!

Food for thought ... I was one of the founding members of GABA and tourney Director .. (Gallatin Association of Bass Anglers) Formed in the 70's.
Okay there are a number of ways this can go ... I don't think the $$$ is a hill ...
Everyone likes recognition for an accomplishment . Plaques and trophys are great plus pay out money ... (would not take anything for awards especially at my age, it brings back memories) But to accomplish this you need to be a club and believe me CLUBS are a PAIN !! you need a Pres. Vice pres. Tourney Director, and treasurer to take care of $$$ and a Board to make sure the Treasurer and the other officers were doing their jobs above board ... And then you have rules ...etc ... A club will be okay but simplicity is not under a club's classification ...
How clubs work is a portion of the entry money is kept held out for plaques/trophys and usually a Banquet at the end of the year and most clubs have an event schedule and points system this gets very complicated and involved... (Since this is a Multi species/open tackle with no restrictions it may be a little easier as far as rules and regs ) Now if a club wants to be formed FishingTN will sponsor if waviers are signed etc ... This I'll need to talk to bd about this since he is our Site attorney.
Now since this is a multi species tourney, weight and size is going to be an obstacle ... (Let me think about this one)
Another thought is Game fish .. catch and release or if legal via by TWRA it is up to the Fisherman to do what he wants to do ... Now Remember there are no formal rules and regs, to have Rules and Regs you need a rules committee ...etc ... See where all this goes ...
I would suggest on this first tourney (after we fiqure out how to work the multi species portion) is maybe just a $$/Gift Cards payout say up to 3 or 4 places or 1 or 2 places per catagory ... lets see where this goes ...
This will lay the ground work for a club/plaques/trophys/ Plus $$ pay out in the future. Or it can be kept simple ... Show up pay entry and fish ...
TNJUG is doing a great job organizing this and I am looking forward to meeting you folks ...Don, I'll be glad to assist in anyway with time permitting <'TK>< :)

OK here it is, this is the format that I have come up with.
Categories:
1. Large Mouth/ small mouth = big fish
2. Pan fish = total weight
3. Catfish = big fish
Large mouth and Smallmouth must be alive.
If you catch a giant catfish and want to CPR, weigh it, take photo and have a witness.
If all agree then we can take up $10.00 per angler and Have gift cards for 1st place winners.
The date will be June 23rd (Sat). Start time 06:30 and end at noon.
Location: Lagaurdo rec area, Old Hickory Lake on Hwy 109 in Lebanon.
There are picnic tables and a sand beach for swimming, now as far as food, I can bring my grill and I think that if you just brought what you want to eat and drink would be the best. I will bring extra burgers and buns and what not. What would be great if we could get some of our wifes to come and hold a spot for us...
If we all agree on the gift card, K-mart has Basspro gift cards that we could get. The date should give all advance notification to be able to attend.
This is going to be an awesome event and I am looking forward to meeting you all.
Don
PS...Rod and reel event only, any type of bait as long as it is legal can be used. Pan fishers please only weigh in fish that you would normally keep for table fare. This will be an individual event, so if you have more than one person in your boat then it is up to you to keep track of your fish! Maybe use culling markers.

Will total weight for panfish be no size or quantity limit? Also will this be a team event or individual?
I think I would like to see a 7" min size or something for panfish... or is this just kind of "common sense" not to weigh something you couldn't eat...
I like this setup though! Will jugs be allowed or rod/reel only? I'm assuming live bait is ok for catfish?

I suggest making it artificial lures only The rules stand as they are! You will have a diversity of anglers fishing for different species. So it would not be right to tell one he can use live bait for catfish and the other that they can only use artificial.

Okay, seems like we have got a lot of interest going here and already folks are jocking for position as far as baits, tackle etc.
First I will be in Missouri at an Old Outboard swap meet on June 23rd.
Secondly this forum was set up for all type of fisherman, panfish, gamefish, roughfish, bank fisherman, fly guys, Bass boats, Yaks etc.
But it seems it is leaning towards a Bass tourney ... I will not support this in it's present state... It should be open to live or artificial bait, any kind of rod, pole, jugs etc ... anything that is legal. :(
Hope to have a picture displayed soon for the decals ... <'TK><

In my experience with other get togethers of this type, the tournament should be as inclusive as possible. The real benefit to this type of thing is having fun and making new friends that share our love of fishing. I've made lifetime friends at these types of things, guys I ended up fishing thousands of hours with. I like winning as well as the next guy, but I'll be just as happy to hand my $10 over to whoever has the lucky hand that day, regardless of what kind of fish is caught.

I enjoy bass fishing from a boat with artificual lures, just as much as castnetting shad for catfishing along a river bank. I know some people turn up their nose to catfishing, or bank fishing. For these "Special People" maybe you could hold separate events. Maybe spring time do a bass fisherman get together, summer do a Catfishermen get together? IDK just an idea. But I would keep all gatherings open to any members, just theme the gatherings. The Catfish gathering or the Crappie gathering and so on. FYI But you cant BBQ on a bass boat, so the Catfish Gathering will be a sucess I'm sure. LOL! "Can't we all just get along?"

Right now I am thinking 12 inches which is about the standard bumper sticker size ... I will donate 2 stickers per member that will be fishing ... as long as everyone gets to fish their method, their tackle, and their baits of choice.
Additional stickers can be purchased at cost ... Custom sizes maybe possible (Larger at cost) .... I won't know the cost until the final tally is counted ... and I will order extras .... <'TK>< :)

I really wish I could make it since I'd like to meet some of the people who post on this forum but we have a wedding to attend in Pensacola, FL. on 1 July and we're heading down a few days early to see friends we haven't seen in over 12 years. Hopefully this won't be the first and only gathering of its kind and I can make the next one...and if everything goes ok, I'll have a boat by then ;)
