Hello guys,

For the first time in my 30 years long life I decide to go fishing. I got that rod from Walmart: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Zebco-Dock-Demon-Spincast-Combo/19491283
And I got a Jig.
I couldn't get anything. I am trying my luck in this spot:http://maps.google.com/maps?client=ubuntu&channel=cs&q=35.856379,-86.412696&ie=UTF8&hnear=Medical+Center+Pkwy,+Murfreesboro,+Tennessee&gl=us&t=h&rq=1&split=0&sll=35.856379,-86.412696&sspn=0.004887,0.009645&ll=35.856753,-86.412696&spn=0.004887,0.009645&z=17
which I found here in your forum.

I want to know what king of bait, hook, should I use. Whether I need BOBBERS, sincker or the both?

In this particular spot, what gear should I use to end up with a little first luck fish?

:) And I am glade to join this fabulous local forum.

Thank you all

What type of fish most Likely in the location I had post?
I am asking about the popular, even If it was 5" long fish.

That stretch of river you will be looking at Bluegill and his kin, some channel catfish, redeye, and largemouth bass. For starters I would have to say use a #6 hook, with a splitshot placed about 1' up. You can use a small splitshot to get a slow suspended fall, or a bigger one to put it on the bottom, where the catfish may see it. Then bait with half a night crawler. Cast it near logs, and overhanging trees, and the deeper pooles. Also, try throwing one of the small crankbaits, that are only an inch or so long. A small rooster tail is good too. If you see carp and want them, try baiting with canned corn. They are fun to catch either way.

I would google trout magnet. Check out videos. Get them at most stores that sell fishing gear. Lighter line maybe 4lb with a small float/bobber. Small but very effective. Hello guys,

:o That's why the first thing I did, after signen up here, was changing my user title to "Foreigner." You can see it under my username. Forgive my poor English.
I don't mind sharing my personal information with anyone here, and would like to invite you to have the dinner together if you are near Murfee. But I don't like to put my personal information here in public, since the visitor can read the forum too.
I am far away from here.

Thank you for stopping by

By the way, is fishing after the rain have a better chance to catch a fish?

They looks fantastic and easy to use. It will be my first choice, as there is many youtube videos show it in details.

Thank you for stopping byn I did not ask for personal infromation, just wanted to know where you are from? There is no harm in telling what country you are from, unless you have something to hide! Just saying!

Sir, I do have something to hide. As I said, I don't mind sharing my information with everybody here, but I didn't like the idea of writing it where anyone from outside can track me.
Anyway, I am from Saudi Arabia :) Is this enough?
Even if I didn't share this thing about me, it is personal thing.

Thank you very much for your help :)

If a guy doesn't want to say where he's from, he doesn't have to say where he's from.

Newbie, welcome.

"Teach me how to fish" is a tall order for a single Internet forum post. Whole series of books have been written on it.

If you just want to get your feet wet and catch a few, the best "starter" rig is a small hook around #8 size, with a couple split shot sinkers for weight about 18 inches up, and a bobber about 3 or 4 feet above the hook. Buy some worms and put about half a worm on a hook, and you're all set. Find a deeper hole with some shade, pitch out, and wait. If you don't get a bite in 10 minutes or so, cast to a different spot until you find fish.

If you want to get more advanced, small lures like rooster tail spinners and "mister twister" grubs will get you some action.

Keep in mind that bigger lures tend to catch bigger fish, but fewer fish. After you catch a lot of the little guys and get the basics down, it'll be time to start getting into more advanced stuff. But this will be a good place to start.

Good luck!

By the way, is fishing after the rain have a better chance to catch a fish?

It depends on where you are fishing and what type of fish you are looking for.

On lakes, a little rain can really help because the runoff will wash bugs and other food into the water. Fish will move shallower and look for stuff to eat.

On rivers, some rain can be good but too much can result in flooded conditions that pretty much shut things down until the water recedes a little bit.

Catfish LOVE muddy water after a big rain, and some of my best catfishing days have been after a big storm when everything is really muddy.

On the other hand, catfish feed by smell, and most other gamefish feed by sight. So if it gets really muddy from a big storm, it can be harder to catch the fish that sight feed at least part of the time (like bass, trout, and bluegill).

This post is over-simplifying a bit. Sometimes there are exceptions where you can have a really good day fishing for bass or trout even after storm runoff hits.

But as a basic rule:

1. Rain is good if it doesn't make things really muddy.

2. If it makes the water really muddy so that there is no visibility, rain will shut the fishing down for a couple days until it starts to clear up again.

3. If you are fishing for catfish, the really muddy water does not shut it down, and sometimes the day after a big storm when things are really muddy is the best time to go.

I fished most of my childhood from the bank with a bobber, a small splitshot, and a small to medium hook below it with a nightcrawler on the hook. The other way i would fish is with a weight tied to the end of my line with a hook a foot or two above it with a nightcrawler, chicken liver, or shrimp on the hook for catfish. Just throw it in the water and let it hit the bottom, reel the slack line in until it's tight, prop your pole up with a stick or something and wait for the tip to start bending. I would use a 1/2 ounce weight for this in a lake. I would take 1 or 2 poles to fish on the bottom while you're fishing with a bobber on top of the water. There are many other variations for bottom fishing, but this is easiest to explain for a beginner.

Good luck.

Sorry for being so cautious, I have been a member in other forums where someone from another country would join so that they can try to hack others computers or gain trust and try to rip members off. I hope that you are sincere and that you are not that type of person. So welcome to the site but I am going to pass on the invitation.

Sorry for being so cautious, I have been a member in other forums where someone from another country would join so that they can try to hack others computers or gain trust and try to rip members off.

That does happen on forums, and its happened here. So, if anything inappropriate gets posted, or if anyone gets questionable PM from any member, let me know by PM and it will be dealt with immediately. Likewise, I keep a close watch on the IP addresses of new members to weed out spammers, and I will ban people registering from questionable places without hesitation.

But unless someone posts something inappropriate, "you don't sound like you're from around here" won't be sufficient reason to make someone unwelcome. When TK and I need help policing the forum, we will ask.

Id like this to be the final word on that topic on the forum. If anyone needs to discuss further, PM me and we will talk about it off the forum.

Thanks.

Bd and Tk. This site is the absolute best that I myself and many others have found as far as for local fisherman. A big thumbs up for yall!

Question...... what are your thoughts for a website get together/tournament? Maybe at a local park where we can grill and all meet and greet and have a good time?

bd has pretty much covered this but As far as spammers and new members go we know IP addresses and Datelines from which they were originated ... I ban at least one a day ...

And yes everyone should be cautious about giving out tracking information ...

Newbie filled out his profile, which I read .... (not verified).

By the way 90% of the new members don't fill out the profile and get automatically banned ...

As far as a tourney ... sounds like fun and I think everyone would like to meet everyone else ... You will need an organizer and some helpers .. NOTE: FishingTN.com cannot be a formal sponsor for this type of event do to liability reasons ... but it can be used as the communication avenue.... <'TK><

What's the diffrerence between splitshot and weight? I thought they are the same!

Thank you bd,
I read a lot about this, stuff for beginner, others not specified but I think for more professional, but the most not talking in details about the gear and how to use them in a particular place.

The information I get from you, and from others here, was very helpful and would be good start for me. I think that I got the first step into the right direction.
