Trout Fishing

Was thinking about going this Sunday to Normandy or Center Hill tailwaters to fish for trout.

I went to Normandy Dam a couple of weeks ago for the first time and was expecting more water. It was my first time there and I had nothing to compare it too. I fished for a while, with no luck. No one else seemed to be catching anything while I was there.

Has anyone been to Normandy lately? How was the water level and condition, and more importantly, how was the fishing?

What about the Caney fork at Center hill dam. Has anyone been out there lately, and how was it?

I don't believe that the trout carry over at Normandy. It is pretty much a winter, early spring fishery. I believe most of the trout are in that great fish hatchery in the sky. Centerhill is an awesome trout fishery. They are having quite a bit of problem up there right now as they have had to limit the amount of cold water that they have in the lake.

The river has been fishing real well as of late. Are you a spin fisherman or a fly guy? If a spin fisherman I can give you a lot of info on the caney as I have been fishing it now for 25+ years. If you are a fly guy maybe some of the others can help you.

I fish Normandy quite a bit in the Spring. I think the trout fishing there is over with. That water warmed up quick. I have not been in a couple of weeks. I usually catch around 100 trout a day there.....but the last two times I went just a couple of trout. If I go to Bedford today may pull into the dam and check it out. The Caney is producing good trout in the deep holes. If I was you I would go to the Caney while it still has trout. The Corp released a statement that they may run out of cold water before summer is over. I am posting the link that my nephew brought to my attention. While it does not say that they will run out of cold water it doesn't take a genius to read through the lines....so you read and give me your take....but there is a serious water problem. But the Caney is on fire right now. The past few times I've fished in the Caney I've done horribly and I usually do pretty well in there. I've never had an issue catching my limit of trout to take home but last time I went, I actually got skunked. Not a single fish of any species. I've noticed the water was really really low so all my hot spots that I've found over the years are much lower than normal and the fish just aren't there anymore. The generation hasn't been much and I was starting to suspect that it was drought conditions. This isn't good though, if they can't keep that water in the Caney cold enough, there's going to be a lot of dead trout :(

This is my first year fishing in TN. I have had quite a bit of experience trout fishing in Arkansas in the White River and Spring River.

We really need some rain.... bad and should have had it a month or so ago.

The only decent trout fishery left by the end of summer may be the Obey below Dale. It has plenty of cold water that I am sure will get used to help pulse the Cumby's flow/power plant and lots of deep water to get down in.

I am not sure if there will be a lot of dead trout floating or not. We have said that in the past for the Caney and almost every year since the construction but it still finds a way to hang on. At the very least the fish will be pretty stressed though.

If you fish the Caney as summer goes on the further into it we get the closer to the Dam you'll want to fish to have a chance at decent numbers due to water temps.
