Bull Shad Swimbaits

I have been dabbling in swimbaits for about a year now and just decided to invest in it. Before I was throwing my swimbaits on a Shimano Curado E7 with a 7' heavy action Mojo rod. Well I decided to take it serious this year and picked up some Shimano Curado 300E's, and a a Dobyns, and Powell swimbait rods. I also ordered some swimbaits, and the first ones that have come in are the.

Mike Bucca Bull Shads in 9" Monster Shad, 6" Bull Shad, and 5" Bull Shad.

I thought the Spro BBZ-1's were a big bait, but this 9" dwarfs it.

I'm thinking hybrids, stripers, smallmouth, largemouth, spotted bass, and hopefully a Muskie will love these. I have a buddy down in Alabama that has been using these in small water and catching a lot of 4lb Shoal Bass, and one may have taken the State Record, but that would mean the end of that fish's life.

The rest of the swimbaits should be in this week along with the rods.

I had some clients about 10 years ago that wanted to try these by casting them in the river ... I really wasn't crazy about this ... (how can you beat live trout for a striper) !!! But anyway they did and caught a 4 pound pound bass ... I think these were called Castastics, or something like that ... I know they were very expensive ... they lost three of them and said well there goes $30 bucks ... and this was 2001 ... <'TK>< :o

I prefer to fish with arties, but I'm not opposed to using live bait.

Some trout just need relocated further down stream sometimes. lol

I'm gonna try these out tomorrow even if the rods don't come in, they are just begging to be thrown.

Fishing with big swimbaits means a lot of no fish days, but I'm willing to risk that. I've caught my fair share of small fish, now it's time to try for some larger ones.

I know they are not cheap, but nothing of mine is, and when I want to try something I usually get that chance if I really want to.

I have 5-10 of the Castiac Swimbaits myself, the trout almost feel like real trout. Although I know the artificials don't get that nervous action when a Striper is on their tail.

I've looked into the Huds they are one of them on my list. I just can't jump into this all at once as it's not cheap. I did find a ABU 6500 C3 in great condition that needed a little oil in my box of goodies. It casted Whopper Ploppers, and Wide Glides with ease, the rod on the other hand was a little over loaded, but the Dobyns and Powell I have should be able to handle up to the 9" Mosnter Bull SHad.

Well yesterday I spotted 7-8 Musky, had one follow and bump. None of the fish didn't want anything to do with anything I was throwing. None spooked just lasily swam and went about their own business (guess they weren't hungry).

I have never fished a bull shad fished high power herring which is the original before triton mike copied.But heard mixed stuff about it.Heard they break very easily very poorly made.But again never owned one so just telling what i've heard.I fish mostly triple trout and 3:16 lure company baits.I own a couple of 3:16 freestyle shad and herring baits which are amazing and work well down here in murfreesboro area.Please post pics of fish when you catch one on it and let us know what you think of the bait thanks and good luck using it.

I also love their 4" Sanddab for lingcod and rockfish, halibut! I was at the ISE in Sacramento this year and they said they will have the 6" and 10" sanddabs later this summer. Can't wait! The BIG Lings, Halibut and Groupers are going to tear it up!
