Is anyone else having as much trouble getting the bass to bite when they are on their beds? I have only manage one.

I couldn't believe the amount of 3-4 pound largemouth I saw cruising the edges of Bedford Lake a few weeks ago, most of them on their beds. Couldn't get a single one to bite. I tried several different lures then moved out to deeper water with the plastic worm and had some action.

I saw a lot of those while looking for Bluegill beds over there.

Been catching them on beds with a watermelon red lizard and have dine real well with the havic fatty craw.

Are both on the bed or just the one?

If your still having trouble getting bit try: A senko type bait with a just a hook and let it dead stick (sit motionless) on the bed until they pick it up. OR Learn how to rig a dropshot with either the same bait or a small creature bait and let it sit on the bed while giving little quivers as the bait hovers over the bed.

On both these techniques or any really in general like this for beds it is more important sometimes to get a color bait you can see more so than something exactly natural.

After the female is gone and the male is in defense mode there shouldn't be as much problem. A spinnerbait drug along likely spots would get bit but before then it can be slow and persistent.

Lot's of luck folks on bedding Bass ... I have fished Fla waters for years in March in visible waters and watched the Sows as well as the Bucks pick a worm up and move it from the bed (by the tail) ... Bedding Fish ... most species are not going to be cooperative ... Now ... when everything is done and over with .. Katey bar the door ... Feeding time will commence !!! ... With this warm weather give it a week or two ... (note: I picked up a 3 pound female today from my pond (spinnerbait)... Under a Bluebird sky .. Highpressure when they should have not been feeding ... She was full of eggs ... pre spawn time and she was prefeeding before going on bed ... <'TK>< ;)

You got that right tk. I will take to my grave the memory of me last year having 5 Shell Cracker beds in sight not 2 feet from the bank...in crystal clear water.......at VFW Lake and I worked those beds for hours and couldn't even get them to pick up anything to move it out of the bed. That was a fisherman's nightmare...seeing Red Ear 12 to 15 inches long and couldn't do anything about it. They war so focused on what they were doing that when I would walk up to the bed they would not even spook. Very frustrating.
