Abu Garcia Veritas rods with Quantam reels. The Veritas rods are the best rods i've ever had my hands on. Although I do have a guy out of Knoxville that makes me rods that i like as well. Those are the only rods in my boat right now.

Never used any brand name rods only Bass Pro Bionic Blades and Pro Qualifiers. But they have Shimano Curados, round Pflueger Trions and a Shimano Lexica paired with. No complaints on any on them. The $45 Lexica is 19 years old, words all worn off but still performs as well as the curados for way under the price.
I really want to try the AbuGarcia Blax Max 2 that is around $50. It reminds me a lot of what I found in the Lexica and I'd gladly pay that for another 20 year reel.

reels are much less important to me. I love the green bass pro extreme one's and have 4 of them that are at least 5 years old and are still great. And I love the blue pfleuger presidents for spinning reels.
I do love great rods. I have 2 loomis GLX's (1 flipping/jig rod and 1 shakeyhead rod) and a Loomis IMX and they are hands down, just awesome!! Now,I also got terrific deals on them used on craigslist and cannot remember ever buying a new rod. I also own 2 shimano crucials and they are awesome.

All Shimano Reels Curado 200E7's, 201E5's, 301E's, Stradic 2500, 3000, Stradic CI4's in 2500&1000, Sahara 2500, 3000, Baitrunner 80000, Sedona 1000's. I recived my 1st pair of Shimano spinning reels around 1988, and wen't to Abu Garcia when I went baitcasting only around 1995 for a few years and been back with Shimano for the past 3 years. Only 1 malfunction with a spinning reel and Shimano took care of me.
I haven't found a rod that I really like yet, so I have some Shimano's, G.Loomis, St. Croix, Abu Garcias, TFO's, Daiwa's, Quantums, and other various rods like Berkleys, but nothing has struck me yet to say this is the only rod I will throw.
I'm not happy where Shimano went with the Curado G Series, and Chronarch's, but I see when I go to replace the Curado E series I'll probably go with the Cores.
FAVORITE COMBOs - Shimano Curado E7 w/ Falcon Bucoo HVY rod 30lb Power Pro
SPINNING Shimano Stradic CI4 2500 w Mossyback Jig & Worm 10lb P-line Halo

I have alot of BPS reels, the 10 bearing pro qualifiers are great! I really like the extreme and the lite series as well. I love the small size and the qualifiers are smooth as silk. I like my qualifiers more than my Johnny Morris. I think their 10 bearing spinning reel is the same as the pflueger president reel... they look interchangable. Either way, it is just as smooth for sure. I sold my shimano's and abu garcia's because I LOVE these reels.
Rods are tough. I like the BPS Extreme and Pro Qualifier, but my favorite is probably my G-Loomis. I have a St. Croix flipping stick that is also always on my deck!

Never tried the Cumara, but I've been wanting a Core, so that would be a reason to get both.
Before making the purchase I need to get something to throw big 5oz swimbaits that I just ordered. Thinking about going Daiwa for this application instead of Shimano. The Calcutta TE300 was calling my name, it doesn't come in the left hand crank. Diawa has the Luna and Pluton that look really nice also and come in lefties. I'll keep using the Curado 301E for 1-4oz swimbaits, and it would probably work for the 5oz, but I'd feel more comfortable with a heavier round reel to balance out the bait better and think the TE400 would just be overkill.

the chronarchs that were made last year white and gold are great I love them I have 5 or 6 of them by there selves !Not real big on this years chronarch but also havent used them yet either so really cant make a opinion on them til I use them ! Been thinking about trying the new Abu Garica MG they feel bad a$$ but cost too much $

Don't care for the new Chronarchs either, too similar to the Curado 200E. If I'm paying more for a reel than I did the 200E's then I want upgrades, that's why I would like to give the Cores a shot. They seem to have enough options to justify the price. I've not done much research on the Revos, but have buddies who swear by the old Toros, and Revo's, but I find the Curados do me just fine and I have no reasons to change for the applications I'm using them for.

If you find a chronarch in the older versions in good shape for a great price you better grab it

Thanks, but I think I've found a way to raise some funds for a couple Cores, and Cumara's.

MidTN and Sterling,
You guy seem to have a bunch of Shimano's too. Where can I get the plastic screw cap retainer (pawl?) for the line winder on a Curado? You see them on about every reel and they look universal. Like a dumb butt I over tightened mine and the pin that slides up in the line winder just falls out.
His is a random reel picture and its #3 that I snapped.
