I finally washed the cobwebs off the boat and left my bank fishing shoes at home.

Arrived at Drakes Creek about 7pm last night and water temps were 65 degrees.

Picked up a 1/2 oz Booyah spinnerbait and went after working boat docks in 1-5ft of water. About 30 mins into the outing I had a big time thump right as the bait came by a dock. Set the hook and after some tug of war a 5lb largemouth was in the boat. That put the bar really high and I was thinking this is gonna be a good night. Unfortunately, it would be hours before another fish would bite.

Around midnight, I switched to covering deeper water with 3/4 oz jig head and a 4" chigger craw. This is one my favorite ways to cover deep ledges somewhat fast. I won't hop unless to get it around something instead cast as far as I can then crank along the bottom. This technique produced another big thump and about a 4lb fish that was lost trying to lift over the side of the boat. After that fish I had probably 5 more bites on 5-15ft drops but never connected again.

Left the water at 3:30am and temps were 62 degrees.

My goal every year is at least one 5lb bass and last year was the first time in 6 years that I haven't done that. Sure was nice to get that over with on the first trip.

Oh and by the way...

For those who commented on my marking up the map thread, both the 5lber and 4lber came off of places that were marked. ;)

The biggest was in a place it should have been for spawn and the other was at a likely stopping point on its way.

I wish I had some of it.

The fish was 20 1/2 inches long and a belly on it.
