Had a great day at Nickajack. Limited out on Crappie...all between 13 and 16 inches. Caught about 50 of the Red Ear...while not big at all for a Shell Cracker it was great fun on 2# test. Had to deal with some big Large Mouths...only got one in...the fish is about 19 inches long. The Crappie have moved up to the banks...I am assuming just because of warm water...still hardly any red in the eggs so they are not yet ready to do their thing. Saw Rick McFerrin down there today. They looked like they were doing pretty good back in the bay.

Thanks bd. You know I have caught a lot of Crappie over the years. Nickajack produces some of the most consistently large Crappie I have ever gotten into. I know the 3 Super lakes in Mississippi give up 3 pound crappie on a regular basis but that is just not common anywhere else. In talking with a gentleman down there yesterday..and he Crappie fishes a lot...he told me that since the limit was changed about 3 years ago from 30 to 15 it has made a huge difference in the size of fish. Yesterday was a strange day as for the way Crappie fight. The Crappie I caught in the shade would give me that constant big slow pull that lets you now it was a Crappie on the line. Then when I started fishing the banks in bright sunshine each time I hooked one of those Slabs I thought I had a White Bass...giant Bluegill or something else besides a Crappie...those in the Sun really fought hard.

Speaking of those "super lakes," I remember one time when I was younger, I fished a bass tournament on Sardis and we were in huge crappie all day. We probably caught a dozen that were over 2 lbs and a couple that were easily 3. They were hitting big willow-bladed spinnerbaits that we were throwing for bass.

We only caught one bass all day.

The next weekend we went back looking for crappie and had no luck. It's a good thing fishing is so fun, because otherwise a guy could really hate it sometimes.

Glad to see you like nickajack. That lake was my favorite and did me good for many years. It has everything a person could want. Good job
Big crappie below the dam to but why would you want to move. There was a few more spots I wish I could have showed you. Good job alpha hawk.

Thanks clean air. Had it not been for you I would have never gone down there. Hoping to get into some big Gills and Red Ears soon.
