It got down to freezing the night before so that slowed the fishing down. We were really there in search of crappie and the large bluegill I hear about in this lake. That didn't happen. My buddy fished with minnows all day and didn't get a single bite. I caught two largemouth right away in the morning around 7am, one being a fat 18 incher. I got those two on a spinnerbait and missed a third one. As the day warmed up I switched to a plastic worm and caught 2 more smaller ones around 12 inches. I tried crappie jigs and even the flyrod in hopes to have fun with bluegill, not even a splash. Not too bad of a day for bank fishing after a cold snap. If you haven't fished it, I recommend it. It's full of bass and once the weather is a little more normal people slaughter the crappie and large bluegill there. I attached a pic of the big bass.

The Bluegill are there...and big Shell Crackers also. In the Spring you can get to them from the bank but a kayak or canoe is best. In the Summer it is a must to have a boat...they go deep and while you can walk to the dam...it is quite a hike. TWRA used to have the road open to the dam but have had it locked for I guess two years now.

We found the dam at the end of the day. Yea the road is blocked but we just parked by the gate and walked just to explore, it isn't too bad of a walk. I've heard fishing along that edge of the lake is the best area. Has that been your experience?

Yes that can be good in early and middle Spring. Then one needs to get to the opposite side of the lake from the parking lot or down around the dam. I usually go there after a half day of catching Stocker Trout over at Normandy...then stop by there on the way back home for some nice Gill and Red Ear action. Usually by late July the water temps can get to 90 degrees on surface.
