Everyone's got a way they like to fish this time of year.

Mine's a Cordell Big O square bill crank, Cordell Spot lipless, Hoppy's double willow spinnerbait and a jig.

What's about you guys?

A rapala x-rap, jig, spinnerbait, and a square bill shallow runnin crankbait are my preferences. I prefer not to indulge in what make or model of the lures as i think that is the secret. The x-rap jerkbait is tremendous this time of year, if, you can figure out the right action.

I also like to keep this type info a secret, Hell, the fish don't even come near my lures because they fear what would happen if I thought they were gathering info about my bait.

Well I am sure most of you know what my pre-spawn bait is...the Trout Magnet and Crappie Magnet. Smallies and Spots love the Trout Magnet. Large Mouth will hit it also but more often than not the Crappie Magnet is my bait for them.

LOL...:D

I respect the secrecy guys. Everyones gotta have a few things up their sleeves. ;) Those I listed aren't too outstide the box for this time of year. Application/Location....now that's a different story better kept under lock and key.

Just thought I'd see how you all approach it.

I am on the Pro Staff of Trout Magnet..but I pay for my stuff. We do get a small discount. Trout Magnet lure company...really Lealands Lures is the name...is a mom and pop operation. The only advertising the lure gets is by word of mouth. Those of us on the Pro Staff just simply believe it is the best fish catching lure out there. I love to catch fish...and if I don't catch fish with a lure I move on to the next one. Of course these lures are designed for ultra light tackle...they do not fit every application. I have caught 10# Striper throwing the Crappie Magnet..but if I wanted to fish below Cordell Hull for a 30# Striper it is not practical. I catch a lot of fish with these lures. If you keep checking the forum you will see my posts. I have not been winter fishing due to rotator cuff surgery. But am starting up again.

I fish them. They work. I started off with the panfish magnet kit and have supplemented that kit several times. Yes bass hit them. Even larger bass. If nothing is biting I become a bream fisher real quick and you can wear some bream out with these things. Another great bait for me this winter has been the chickenfoot jig from basspro. I use those on the jigheads that are made for crappie magnets. I always fish them under floats and just twitch them back to me every 10 seconds or so.
As far as spawn baits go, I fish the same things I fish all year long. I never really change with the season except for the depth I fish.

They have a new bait called the Mini-Magnet. I have a kit of one but was about to give it away to a fly guy. Then the reports started coming in on how good they are on trout. I catch plenty of trout using the Trout Magnet and don't see how my catch rate could go up....but I am going to try them. They are only 1/200 of an ounce. I will report on them when I get back wading at the Caney. I can just barely see the eye of the jig on them.

Honestly I think you'll discover that the Mini Magnet works even better than the regular Trout Magnet when you try it. I've thought for a long time that the Trout Magnet was on the right track with the "dead drift" concept but it's just too darn big to match the most common insect forage that the trout are eating - especially the rainbows.

When I fly fish, one of the most effective Caney Fork flies I have is tied on a size 20 hook. Sometimes on tough days I've even had to go down to a 24 or 26. That is unbelievably small.

Hey Alpha, I am really interested in the new color in that looks to be just for the kit.

That is going to be really good and an important color up there on the Caney.
