Kayak Bass Fishing
http://www.kayakbassfishing.com/ (http://www.kayakbassfishing.com/)
Kayak Bass Fishing aka KBF the Ultimate Resource in Kayak Fishing hosts online tournaments. We have monthly tournaments all year long excluding December, January, and February. There are catch photo and release tournaments where you take a picture of your fish on an approved measuring devise with a special identifier. Then you submit your fish online in the challenge. We have a Freshwater and Saltwater division. Each month first place is a kayak of your choice from Wilderness Systems. Other prizes are from Shimano, G.Loomis, Hook1, Precision Pak, Adventure Technology and more usually over $2500 in prizes a month. Each challenge you earn points toward Angler of the Year. If you are lucky enough to earn that I think you get somewhere around $15,000-$20,000 maybe more depending on how many participants there are thru the year. You can enter by the month or you can buy a Bass Pass which covers all tournaments, added discounts, and more benefits. Several months we use a smallmouth multiplier to help out the Tennessee and Northeast guys where you take your length and multiply it by 1.15, and then a couple months we use the AMI fish calculator http://www.anglingmasters.com/index.aspx?too=2003&eve=4 (http://www.anglingmasters.com/index.aspx?too=2003&eve=4) to help the guys in the northeast also.

There is the River Bassin Trail.
http://www.riverbassintrail.com/ (http://www.riverbassintrail.com/)

This is a live series hosted by Bass Pro Shops, Jackson Kayak, NuCanoe, Kokatat, and Bending Branches. There were about 20 stops last year two in Tennessee, two in Georgia, two in Kentucky, one or two in Alabama, and then several other states including North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and Texas. I see it expanding greatly in 2012 with more stops in Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, and Kentucky. In these tournaments you are given a radius you can fish for one day it has to be a river, creek or tributary with moving water. You are allowed 3 fish and most people chose their longest. On Friday at the Captains meeting you are given an identifier and measuring devise. You can start fishing Saturday at daylight, and have to be in by 4pm or so to check in your fish.

There are many individual tournaments like Heroes on the Water, and club events around the US, and Mexico. The farthest we have traveled for a tournament was Florida, but 2012 will be my tournament, or travel year.

Tennessee Kayak Anglers
http://www.tennesseekayakanglers.com/ (http://www.tennesseekayakanglers.com/)

There is a new club (Tennessee Kayak Angers) that will be hosting small local events next year, more of gatherings and side bets than anything. This will be more of getting people together with similar interests and locally.

If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

Chris the kayak angler, or Chris the owner of Hook1?

I know both pretty well. Chris the kayak angler and I have spent quite a bit of time on the water together. He is a good angler and also very knowledgeable.

Thanks, I appreciate the praise...lol. We need to get on the gsp bite soon, so get moved in and tell your workplace you need a fishing-conducive schedule.

How safe is it for a kayak at the steam plant?
Where do you guys put in at?
Is there a ramp or park nearby?

Maybe I've had bad luck, but when I go to Old Hickory if I try to leave a cove I feel like the bass boats are mad that I attempted.
Last saturday I fished the little cove on the old hickory side of the dam. As soon as I left the cove to fish the fallen timber outside of it, some moron in a bassboat came blowing by full throttle not 20 feet away from me. I know they seen me cause they were waving at laughing at their shenanigans. Then they set the boat down on a dime which made a huge wave. I guess to not disturb the no wake zone.:( Too late by that time. I managed to stay upright, but not wanting to risk another I moved back to the cove. I caught three decent bass in there so it wasn't so bad.
Earlier this summer I had a similar incident on the other side of the lake.

This is my first year fishing out of a kayak so maybe I'm being over cautious.

There ia a boat ramp right across the SP it is called Coles ferry, take I40 east to Hwy 109 North toward Gallatin, turn right onto Academy ( Home run market will be on the left on 109) Academy turns into Coles Ferry...You will see the sign on your left for boat ramp...It is just a ramp no boat dock. Head down River about 1000 yards and the Canal to the steam plant will be on your right!

Poorman and Tennessee Jugger are both correct.

As far as fishing out there I highly recommed a partner, and someone who is familiar with the area. I know you are not floating but let someone know where you are and have a float plan made out. I recommend you know how to re-enter your kayak in cold water/self rescue. Bring extra clothing a complete change of dry clothes, know your surroundings. Bring high energy food food, plenty of water, and several pair of gloves. Fishing in the winter in a small craft can be very dangerous, I don't advise anyone to do it, and I definately wouldn't take anyone not experienced out in the elements in those conditions.
Please be very careful on the water in any conditions. They never write happy stories in the paper or have them on the news, and I don't want to see anything bad happen to anyone. It kinda discredits me, and people will look down upon me when I'm out there when people hear these stories, but if I can warn people and hopefully I can post up some nice fish and great reports this winter to show that you can fish from a kayak in the winter if you are properly preparred.

Please be safe, and ALWAYS WEAR YOUR PFD

I'm hoping to hit the steam plant at some point, but would only do it with a group.

I thought of buying a a wetsuit or something, just to be safe.

I'm actually gonna try and get out to Percy Priest this afternoon. It's chilly but not too bad. I recently broke out of a losing streak so I'm itching to her a try today...
