Nickajack 11-01-11

Going to have to start taking the pics at the lake....can't quiet get a good one after getting home. Caught a limit today. Had two fish that were 11 inches and the rest were realy nice Slabs. My last fish of the day was 14 inches and several were 13 inches. The bite was slow but had a good day. I don't know if having a Blue Bird Day was slowing the fish down or not. I want to go back Thursday but the latest forecast is calling for 17MPH winds. Kind of hard to use a 1/64 and 3# test line in that...but maybe I will go anyway. I still need to check out 2 other locations that appear to be same type structure and depth. I now know Nickajack has some very large Crappie in it....just a great place to fish.

Great work.

I went poking around today to a small pond. There was already a good layer of leaves on the bottom. I could see plenty of gills cruising though. All I had with me was crappie mags which drew no interest.

If I can shake the trout bug I may really get after some slabs but right now there's dreams big square tails dancing in my head.

Thanks...they are in there and I am not sure how long they will be at that location but I think all the way through Spring....I know I am going to find out....LOL.

The early spring is great for bigger fish.I know your thinking that there big already.Mr. Simms knows his stuff on Chickamauga for big crappie. Its the TNriver as a whole I think.

I don't know who Mr. Simms is and I am sure he knows about Crappie. But no I am not thinking they are big...I KNOW thy are big. I have fished for Crappie for over 40 years and the only place I know of that has...on average....bigger fish is Center Hill and Dale Hollow with the Black Nose....but they can be difficult to catch because of almost gin clear water. The other place I know of that produces consistent BIG Crappie are the 3 lakes in Mississippi....one of them being Lake Grenada. When you read up on Americas best Crappie Lakes most of the time one of those lakes in Mississippi will be number one and number two is usually Kentucky Lake....which is where I am fishing when I am below Pickwick Dam. I am fishing 3 different places at Nickajack.....I have never been in Honey Holes like this that 95% of everything I catch is big. I went again today and will post that soon. I limited out and I will post a pic of two that I am holding up. Here's the thing...those two fish are 15 inches with a big girth....but my other 13 were either also 15 inches or slightly over 14 inches! By any standard those are big Crappie. These fish are some of the thickest Crappie I have seen. I will not be going back to Pickwick until I know the Crappie have moved into my hole there and or I quit catching Crappie at Nickajack. Maybe they will get bigger in the Spring...but if they do I am not sure the 2# test leader will get them in.....LOL.
