Crawfish??

Does anybody know of any bait shops that have live crawfish in the Sumner county or north Davidson county or out off of I-40 towards Center Hill area?
Hoping to go to The Hill this week but probably not gonna have time to hit the creek and catch them myself.

The Bait Shop in Hendersonville on Gallatin Road has live crawfish at least some of the time. There's a bait shop of the interstate outside of Cookeville that used to sell spring lizards - I don't remember whether they sell crawfish too but they might. It's been a long, long time since I've been in there. It's around exit 299.

You may find some but this is not the usual time of year for bait shops to sell them.

Interesting tidbit. I spoke with a guy at The Bait Shop in Hendersonville today and they do not carry crawfish anymore. He said due to a change in regulations about two years ago that it is very difficult to get them for resale in Tennessee now.

Guess I'm gonna have to find an hour or two to get my feet wet and catch my own before I go! Lol.

I am sure that probably has to do with invasive species act...but when you drive to Pickwick in the Spring you will see signs...at bait shops and just on the road....."Crawfish For Sale". That tells you the White Bass are up at the dam by the millions and evidently there is a time during spawn that they will only hit crayfish. I am pretty sure all of these crayfish are locally caught as they bring a pretty penny...I think the bait shops pay you ten cents each for them. I don't know that for sure as I have never used them there for that. But I do know they sell tons of them when the White Bass come in there.

Come to think of it I haven't seen them in The Bait Shop in Hendersonville in a long time and always wondered why.

The creek is always a good source but you can get some really big ones use a trap on Old Hickory similiar to those for minnows. Put some dog food in there and the'll crawl in but can't get out. A friend of mine told me about one time they did repair work on the Lock and had to drain then use a bucket to dredge it out. They dug up hundreds of big ole crawdads enough so that they donated them to a local church for a boil.

Down in Texas at Lake Fork we could have bought water dogs to uses as bait but they were like $4 or $5 a piece.

I've always wanted to put out a bunch of crawdad traps on Old Hickory and then go out with a video camera to check them during bad weather, and post it on Youtube as "Redneck Deadliest Catch." :)

I found this one on the duck river. That's a quarter I laid on him. Biggest I've ever seen around here.
