What's up with all the boats out fishing at night with no lights on? I fished JPP last night and on 4 different occasions I pulled up to a point only to have someone turn their lights on when I got there. I don't understand the thinking. If your going to turn them on when someone gets close then why ever turn them off in the first place? I can at least understand but not agree with it if the bugs are bad and someone is fishing in the back of the boat but the bugs were not an issue last night

If i was fishing the shoreline I left my lights off. I do not like bugs nor the light shining in my eyes if I turn to face it. 99% of the time i had a partner in the boat.
If I saw a boat approaching within a couple hundred yards I flashed them and if he was coming toward me I turned them on.
Anyone would have been a fool to get too close because i was usually not in an area that one should have been running with any speed.

I understand this to a degree, but there was pretty good visibility last night and I would look in the direction of a fishing spot and not see any lights so I would make a run over there and then have someone turn their lights on. If they just had them on to begin with then I wouldn't have wasted my time running over there. This happened several times last night and there really isn't any excuse and it's dangerous
