My boat is in the shop on a recall and a buddy who just moved to the area wants to go trout fishing , I have trout fished before but never below the dam , any advice on gear, bait or location is appreciated

PS, don't have waders so we will be bank fishing

Small spinners and rapalas. Or you can bottom fish with corn or power bait. Alot of guys here swear by trout magnets as well. Use light line and get out there early.

When the water is right...meaning no generators......you can catch all the trout on Trout Magnets you would want......and yes other lures will catch trout also. But for now..and for several more days...or longer.....the flow will be around 9’000 CFS. With that kind of flow there is no wade fishing and not much bank fishing. If you do go you will either have to use some sort of bait....bottom setup....or throw cranks or heavy spinners.....spoons. They had a ton of rain and the lake is at 633.59 and rising....so they will have to get it back down to 630, or close to there before they slow down the output.

Doesn't sound like you plan to fly fish, but if you do, black zebra midges size 16-20 tend to work well.

Also, if you plan to keep any, be aware of the limits. 5 fish total.

Rainbows and brookies are protected in the 14"-20" range. Only 1 fish over 20" can be taken for each.

1 Brown can be taken but it has to be over 24".
