I just wanted to post an update on my lower unit since I had asked you guys for help. I had my mechanic just rebuild me one from a lower unit he already had. I took mine to him yesterday and picked up the new one. I went home and installed it and took it to the lake to run the boat. Everything seems fine with the new one and the boat ran great.

My mechanic is Joel Knight at 101 Marine in Scottsville KY. Joel is a stand up guy and is a great mechanic. He has rebuilt a motor for my dad. I took him with me last summer when I purchased my boat last summer and we've used him for everything on our boats for the last couple years. I took my lower unit to him before it went out because I knew something wasn't right. He took it apart and said it looked fine. Well it wasn't and it went out then next trip. He felt bad about this and only charged me $250 for the new rebuilt one. I thought that was more than fair and gave him $300. Everything seems to be fine with the new one.

On a good note. I only had 15 minutes to ride around in the boat yesterday before I had to go to work. Of course I spent 5 of those minutes fishing, and I caught this nice little chunk.

Detailed report on my one fish
Caught in 0.8 foot of slightly stained water
Caught using a black bladed buzzbait with a ayu colored swimbait
The swimbait has a lot of teeth marks on it (this is a key deatail:p)
Caught by running my bait 3 inches behind a small patch of dead grass
6.4 mph south southwest wind
Water temp was 60.3 degrees

You are the buzzbait king. I hardly ever throw one, might need to keep one tied on based on your success.

It's one of my best spring time baits when the conditions are right. After the spawn I will switch to a walking bait and a frog. I've caught more fish on a buzzbait this spring than probably any other bait. I was catching at least a dozen a day the last week of FEBRUARY on a buzzbait on JPP. It's just a confidence bait for me early in the year when fish are shallow and aggressive.

Great that you are up and running. Sounds like my kind of mechanic. Honest and he's trying to back his work.
