Managed to get out Friday morning in my kayak and floated a six mile section of the Buffalo river near Lobelville. The fishing wasn't great but it was beautiful and peaceful. Didn't see another person on the river until I got within 200 yards of my take out spot.
Managed 6-8 smallmouth with the largest being between 2.5-3 pounds. Can't wait until it gets a little better in the spring.

I've always wanted to try that. What were you throwing?

Only thing I could get them to hit were watermelon seed colored soft plastic crawfish. I don't remember what brand they were but I tried several other types of baits as well from twister tail on various size jig heads to suspending jerk baits. They were pretty finicky.

That is a great looking smallie!
I've heard really good things about the buffalo. I need to invest in a kayak and try to get down there this spring. Even if I don't catch anything, I just love being on a river like that!:)

Great looking fish. How long have you had you yak? Do you just take it on the river?

I used to fish it years ago. I would stand in mouth of Green River...cast a Trout Magnet under a float into the Buffalo and catch Smallies all day long. I had permission then to fish I think it was 2 miles of river frontage at Crazy Horse. Also caught a ton of rock bass.

I have had kayaks for years but they were more just ride the river and complain about your back for two days types of kayaks so I just upgraded to the Jackson Coosa HD a month or so ago. It is unbelievably comfortable and well set up for fishing. A ton of tiny details built into that boat just for fishing. I haven't had it out on any lakes yet but may at some point.
I have a good friend with a place on the Buffalo river so that is where I will use it mostly.

Awesome, I drive down 13 every other day and really like the view and water there.
That is where I saw my last Eagle that was posted about recently.
