After changing the oil in my Yamaha 115 I decided to put in at long hunter and troll for a few hours. I trolled near Rock island pretty much in the channel or near it. Marked a lot of bait, fish and trees. Just managed one hybrid on A-Rig 4.4lb. I thought I would have more action from what was on my electronics. Another boater was trolling near me and said he only caught one catfish. Unfortunately I did lose a rod and reel set up. I got hung up and the angle of the rod and line with the tension popped it out of the rod holder. I tried to grab it and then snag with my a rig. Reel was only 20.00 the rod about 65.00. I did have an arig and braid on the reel. Well I'm 2 out of 3 for retrieving rod and reels hitting the water. This one is in about 30 plus feet of water. Tried trolling to snag with 6XD but notta. Oh well not the end of the world but irritating. Here are a just a few screen shots... well I just took a picture of them with my camera.

Same thing for me on saturday. Shad were 10-12' thick in the water column. They were little threadfins about 2" long. Atleast the ones i snagged were. Good arcs, plenty of bait.....2 fish boated.
Bummer on the rod/reel loss.

i have heard people using those old metal stringers to retrieve lost fishing rods... put a heavy weight on the end, open the metal hooks, rope to the other end. not sure if that would work around those trees or not. How was the water color sunday? thanks for the report and screen shots.

Could idea with the stringer. Toughest part was it was so far away from shore in deep water. I will keep that idea in mind for sure. The water clarity was worst than I thought it would of been. I would say stained but not muddy.

I have recovered 2 outfits years ago using the old stringer method.
