Had something happen Sunday that I had never experienced before.
Whilst fishing on the Cumberland river Monday, I had the plug come out of my boat!
We had been fishing for about four hours when I noticed water in the bottom of the boat. Knowing we hadn't struck any objects in our travels, I immediately suspected the plug as it had felt a little loose when I put it in. It was one of the lever lock types, not a threaded plug or rubber plug that can be screwed down tighter.
I am able to reach my plug from inside the boat and when I checked, yup, open hole.
I turned on the bilge pump, put the boat in gear and headed for my spare plug. Got the spare, plugged up the hole and let the bilge pump do it's job.
If I had not have had the spare plug, I would have shoved a rag into the plug hole from the bilge side and let the bilge pump keep it reasonably dry down there.
This is just a reminder to all you boaters out there....if you have a removable plug, and it looks old and brittle, spend the $3-$6 for a new one and maybe have a spare on board.
