Got out on the Cumberland River this past Sunday, fished from the dam to old hickory Blvd bridge. Had a great day, was fishing for small jaws, but caught just about every other species in the river. Caught a few smallies, a few drum, some were 8-12 lbers!!! Caught one largemouth, a catfish, a pretty good size white bass, and 2 big gar. Had one gar come out of the water and tried to spear me...it must've been an LSWHO fan...and just like on the football field, I won!!! 😂😂

Forgot to mention this....about midday we went up to the dam trying to find some skippies, deezltek looked up at the top of the water gate, there was a guy sitting right up against it fishing. When he told me that someone was up there fishing, I looked at him like he was on dope!!! But sure enough...there was a guy up there wearing fish out!

That's interesting .... never ventured to the dam, .. are you allowed to fish anywhere you want on the lake side at the dam?
Anyone have any experience fishing there? .. any hazards to watch for?

All I've ever seen are warning signs, nothing states that you can not fish there. I've seen people fishing inside the generator holes in the dam. Now, what do you think would happen if they decided to turn those on????

Good report! I was up that way myself Sunday afternoon. I didn't go all the way to the dam but hit the stretch from Mansker Creek to Old Hickory Bridge a few times. The only other boat I saw was a black deep vee. He said he did okay on crank baits other than losing too many. I did fairly well on spotted bass in the heavy current but did not get touched once on the "slack" side. There were a ton of gar just down from Mansker Creek. I wish I had brought my bow.

I've always wondered why the congregate right there. I'll be down there Saturday morning if the generation is anything close to being right.

Guys your killing me. I said all year I was going to the river to chase those smallies. Can't seem to get away long enough to go to the lake past few months. What seems to be best time of year to go down there.

Anytime you can catch the generation right. That's the main thing. I catch bigger smallies down there during the winter.

Has anyone else noticed fewer smallmouth in the 13" to 17" range? It could just be how my outings turn out. A couple little smallmouth, an occasional big fish and usually a bunch of little spots.

That guy above the dam gate tripped me out. Those gar are super strong fish, and are like grabbing a rose bush. What a fun day.
