I'm on vacation this week and plan on making the drive up to the Obey. I've never fished it before and have a couple questions. I can fish from my kayak or my Jon boat (14ft with mod V). If I take the kayak, I'll just put in at the dam and float down to Donaldson. My question was if I take my boat and put in at Donaldson, how far could I make it up river on no gens?

I tried to do a search and came up empty. The only reason I ask is because I would really like to fish the Obey/Cumberland confluence some and I'd rather not do that in my yak. My plan with the boat was to motor up at far as I could, fish til gens kick on, ride gen water down to the Cumberland, and then fish around the mouth for a bit. Does that sound reasonable on the Obey?

Thanks in advance

You can use your boat to do that. When you put in you can use an outboard probably up to the 1st large bend, go slow though. Then may need to use trolling motor to navigate and fish at the same time. Once the gens get going you can motor up to the Dam or drift back to the Cumberland. I usually don't start catching trout until I get to the overpass going towards the Dam.
