Hey I'll be on old hickory the next few days and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions? I'll be sure to let everyone know if I figure anything out so yall can hopefully catch some this weekend. Thanks

I fished Cedar creek last Sunday and caught some good fish on buzzbaits and spinnerbaits in the grass. Sounds like things are changing day to day though.

If you intend to launch on your side of the lake/river I would suggest focusing on Barton and Spring Creeks with maybe a run up to Bledsoe. Like The Hick said above if you can find the cane grass along the shoreline and it is beginning to show green shoots of new growth, wear it out with a buzz bait. Throw all the way to dry ground and bring it back through the grass.

I have been on good fish the last 5 days fishing the creek channels. All of the bass I've caught have been from 5 - 10 feet deep.

So there are fish to be caught just about anywhere you want to try.

I caught this one yesterday.

U can catchem just about any way you want. I fished today and caught somewhere between 30-40. Most were small but a few good ones mixed in. My best advise for catching a good one is under boat dick catwalks and any cover around a dock in 5-8 fow. Creek channel banks have been key as well. I'm catching them anywhere from 1-15 fow

Yeah, I had a scale. Pictures are so deceiving. It weighed 4 lb. 4 oz.

It is hard to get a picture when you are by yourself that doesn't look all skewed.

Went out Friday from 930-130 in drakes creek and a few areas down that way. We only caught 4 and 2 were keepers. Water is to clear for old hickory I think it hurts fishing in the grass. Fish were caught on spinnerbaits in the grass and squarebills.

Call me crazy but I think the majority of the spawn is over. It's like it happened so fast. I fished a tournament yesterday and we caught around 15 keepers and a lot of short fish. Our keepers came of if steeper rock creek channel banks and they all looked skinny. I'm gonna start looking at ledges this week as I have a hunch I just might find some fish grouping up already. Anybody else have this feeling?

I'll call you crazy!!! Lol. I'm not convinced yet that the spawn is over. But if I don't see any bedding fish this weekend or next week then I'll agree with you. I'm stumped because as I have said before, I haven't seen the first bed, or bloody tail. Last year it happened the first of May. So we'll see what happens. I'm hoping I'm right cause I'd hate to miss the spawn, my favorite time of the year. But, with that being said, I did catch a nice fish March 25th that was crack head skinny but should of been upwards of 6lbs. See pic below she choked a jerkbait too.

I hope your right. I have only noticed 2 bloody tails and I caught both of those fish over a week ago. It's just funky right now. I fished a tourney Sunday and only 5 of the 19 boats had a limit. I thought we were gonna finish somewhere in the middle of the pack with 11.5 lbs and we were 4th. It should be easy for everyone to catch a limit right now. I'm sure everyone was beating the grass beds and fishing backs of creeks and pockets. I've fished a lot the last couple weeks and the fish are not stacked in those places as of Sunday. The only time I've caught the fish good around grass was about 3 weeks ago when the water was high

It's been a couple of weeks since I've caught some nice bass, and it's been discouraging to me. So I took this weekend off and did some crappie fishing. Glad that panned out!! Lol. I looked at the lunar fishing chart for the month of April in the bassmaster magazine and from what it was saying the best fishing of the month was the first week. The rest of the month was supposed to be mediocre at best. Now, I don't put much stock in that, I do pay attention to the weather and moon phases which can usually give me an idea on how the fishing is going to be. But, that little lunar calendar has been pretty accurate this month.

Speaking of moon phase, we just had a full moon Thursday, which should have had some positive effect on the fish. I did notice that they were more active, but not like I thought they should have been. The surface temp is right, the full moon has passed, fish should be on bed right now. Instead they are being found in 8-10FOW. Which to me is deep for this time of year. I need to add this, the water coming out of the dam as of yesterday I believe, was only 63,which does make it a little cooler than what bass like to spawn in.

As you can see, I'm confused, lost, and a little upset that I don't have a clue as to why I can't get the bass to cooperate with me right now. And I'm not the only one which makes it a little less disheartening!!

Bass are wearing it out on Priest. This past weekend was for sure a good one, especially for topwater.

Two completely different bodies of water. The first and last time I was on priest with my boat, I thought it was gonna break in half, sink or me and deezltek die. I don't do priest anymore. I'm glad to hear someone can catch them though.

This last full moon phase seemed to jump start the shad spawn which typically follows bass. Based on that I would say bass should be done or winding down. As with any body of water there won't be all up then all down but instead there will be multiple waves throughout the lake.

I'd say they are for the most part though it's done.

I did see a fish that seemed to be on bed today. Only got out for a cpl hours and had 4 keepers with one going 3lb 14 oz. I couldn't see the bed but I kept spooking the fish with my bait and it would come right back every time. Never caught it though. It wasn't very big so after a cpl minutes I moved on

Old hick could use a little color. It's super clear for old hickory. I feel like a few fish have spawned but the majority of them haven't. That's what I'm hoping anyways. Cause if I missed the spawn, I might just cry!!😢😭

I think you missed it. The way the weather has been all spring the water temps jumped up early this year and I think most moved up to spawn weeks ago. You will get waves of fish so I am sure there are still fish spawning. With the water temps I saw Sunday and where I caught my crappie I'm pretty sure that spawn is over too.

I have been catching bluegill / shellcrackers on bed for 2 weeks.

The rain will help more than hurt OH. It needs some pretty bad in my opinion.

If the water doesn't get some color to it over the next couple of days, I would definitely be fishing deeper than normal. I like to fish deep than most people anyway and this spring as been great for me. I think the clearer water has kept them out of the shallows more and has allowed them to spawn in deeper water.

Where have you been catching bluegill on beds at?? I haven't seen that either. All the bluegill I caught Saturday and Sunday were in 8-15fow and pretty healthy. I have seen small bluegill up shallow but nothing of size.

I've talked to a lot of guys on the water, at the ramp, and anywhere else and I get told the same thing...no one has seen a bloody tail or a bedding bass. Not even a male protecting a bed.
I do agree with the rain helping old hickory. It needs a little color to fish real good in my opinion.

I watched one build a nest under my dock 2 weeks ago. She is long gone, but the male remains. I saw a wave of them a few days before the full moon. Bite is tough now as a result, but should pickup soon.

It's a high school tournament out of flippers. Have they pulled the barrier down at the steam plant?

I'm glad that the high school fishing is taking off like it has. I have a 16 yr old brother that's on a high school fishing team in Alabama. I sure wish I'd had that opportunity 16-20 years ago when I was in school. I might've done better at school or been completely wrecked cause all of think about was fishing!!

Good luck to ya, hope the rain doesn't cancel it for y'all.

Is that male guarding fry, or protecting a bed??

If the thunder and lightning will stay away Saturday, I may be fishing in the rain. It doesn't bother me, and I've actually caught my pb in the rain when I was 14-15yrs old out of a pond I lived on.

No it was thought to be removed but it was just relocated to more than likely it's permanent home.

My bad wasn't clear on that. Those have been on smaller impoundments but it has been ahead of schedule so I am going to bet OH will be or is too.

Had 3 keepers today. Lost a few before they could get into the boat. Moving baits worked well for me
