I have finally FINALLY figured out spring crappie on priest. Not just the "where" but the where and why at any particular time. I could watch the schools of suspended crappies as the morning turned to afternoon with the warm sun as they moved up in the water column towards their spawning grounds. I found fish all over the water column. Early morning they were suspended 10-15ft down over 20'. I got some smaller fish as they suspended but not a bite on the bank. As the sun got higher, I started picking up more and bigger fish right up on the bank. I gave it all some thought, looked at my navionics and hit similar areas (all driven by wind direction of course) and they all produced. Some more than others. I scanned quite a few fish on shallow flats on the SI but the wind was brutal so I didn't even attempt to fish...but I found em!
I've never fished crappies like this before, in MI, we fished the shallow canals and marinas. Old wooded sea walls were always prime.....but fishing their natural environment here it always threw me for a curve. A few fish here and there, and tips from guys telling me go over there...which is always appreciated, but I was missing the logical sense as to why over there and not here cause place A and B look identical. I'm extremely confident that aspect has officially clicked with me and I'm looking at the lake in a totally different manner.
Tuesday was absolutely brutal in the wind....I launched from long hunter and went uplake and the giblets took a pounding in the waves! Lol.
I did get into some good chunky whites Tuesday morning in the wind on a blade bait. They were coming up 5' to crush it! I hit one small school and pulled 8-9 really quick, then I was just school chasing picking up one or 2 every so often....just enough to keep ya fishing for em. Brought home 13 crappies Tuesday, fine tuned my knowledge and brought home 21 Wednesday.
The new Garmin Unit is killer.....love it. Still learning the fine tuning with the SI but I love it so far.

JPP can be wierd with crappie. My wife and I have caught them trolling lipless crankbaits in 45 ft of water there before but not a bite drifting jigs in 15ft. They like to move out there.
