Nice Bass out of City Lake!

Decided to get out the other day and try kayaking down the leg of City Lake around the Popular Grove & Hidden Hollow area in Cookeville... Caught a nice bass... I came back here to fish cause I remember from my childhood years seeing a man just sitting on the banks fishing with crickets, he had landed a huge carp, and a bass! I mean they both matched size-wise seriously!!! Both were in excess of 3' length-wise and 6" to 8" wide... I hope to catch something like that again... I've already saw an carp just as big as it or bigger recently.... Still no bass tho! Anyone been having good results around here? A lot can change around here but I know the fish are still there! :D

Nice fish! I lived in Cookeville for 4 years while attending TTU and always heard of some really big bass being in that lake. I never fished there though. Anytime I actually had the time to fish I preferred to head to the Caney.

ive fished Meadow Park lake alot when i lived in crossville. its gets pretty heavy pressure, but there are some tanks in that lake i know for sure. there is a good size flooded timber/stump field in the back of the lake.
The other really good lakes are private unless you know somebody that can get you into them, like the Tansi chain of lakes or Fairfield Glade Lakes.

Back in the 80's when I was at TTU, we snuck into quinland lake a couple times. Huge bass in that lake. I heard we were lucky, from what I understood you didn't want to be caught fishing there.

I grew up in Cookeville and fished city lake many times. Have some great memories there. The lake used to have a grass in it called elodia and grew from 0 to about 8 or 9 feet deep. Never forget my dad catching a bass over 9lbs using a technique we called jigger polling. A real stout bamboo pole with about 4ft of 40 or 50lb line tied to the end of it. After a big rain and the lake muddied up put a big cork and a big hook about 2ft under it, hang a night crawler or spring lizard on the hook and dunk 'em in the holes in the grass. Not much grass left but I'm sure there are still some big bass.
