I was in Cedar Creek on OHL today and went into the marina for a bite to eat. When I was leaving, I started trolling around planning to fish the slips. They have signs that say no fishing all over the place. They can't enforce that right? They don't own the water and if I'm not damaging anything then I'm on the right side of the law, correct?
I made a few pitches and did catch one in one of the slips before I noticed the signs. Nobody said anything to me but I thought I would ask you guys here about it.

ive encountered this same situation dozens of times both in TN and in MI.
No, they cannot own public waters. They may have those signs as a deterant to avoid property damage to moored boats such as snagged hooks, banging baits off paint, people getting on the docks to retrieve errant casts.
As long as your not giving them a reason to look in your direction to hassle you, you will be fine. i wouldnt worry about your fishing though.

Yes it's not a problem to fish those slips. There is nothing they can say to you. I fish them all the time. I've never had a single person say anything. Usually I will have some nice conversations with people hanging out in the boats and on the docks. Sometimes they will even give you some useful information about submerged brushpiles and such.

I've fished them also no one has said anything. Cedar creek yacht club doesn't have any no fishing signs that I've ever seen.

Most of them mean no fishing from the marina docks themselves, not us fishing around them.

This is correct
