hey i just learned of a High school tournament I will be having on Norris lake in June of 2016, and trying to figure it out as I've never been to the lake. What kind of lake is it? Mostly Largemouth or Smallmouth? Any techniques that will out produce others? Deep or shallow? Any info is greatly appreciated. Thank You

Norris is similar to Center hill and Dale Hollow. Deep and clear

Norris has approximately 800 miles of shoreline and 33,840 acres of water surface at full pool of 1020'. It is the largest & cleanest reservoir on a tributary of the Tennessee River. Annual water elevation between summer & winter pool fluctuates around 20'. These fluctuations, coupled with the detrimental effects of boat waves has severely eroded the lake's shoreline, washing away fish habitat, topsoil, and much of the associated nutrients needed to support aquatic life. Most of the reservoir's nutrient supply comes from the water inflow from the Clinch and Powell rivers. Norris is relatively infertile and does not, and never will, support as many fish as more fertile reservoirs like Boone, Douglas, and Cherokee.

Norris is deep & clear overall, but it depends where you go and recent weather. Lake is mostly rocky. The water temp will be warming at this time and have a lot of boat traffic. Expect to fish deep. There are lots of transition areas with flats, points, coves, ledges, etc. Many fallen, old, dead trees along shorelines. Get a contour map!

Not sure what kind of fish you are after, but Norris is well known for good population of Striper & Smallmouth. There are plenty of Largemouth, Catfish, Crappie & Walleye, too. Tough lake to fish in summer. Overall fish size & quantity tends to be smaller than other lakes due lack of vegitation, erosion & lake age, etc.

Good luck!

I live a little over an hour away from Norris, and seldom hear or read of any fishing reports for Norris. It is more of a recreational boaters lake than fishing but people do fish it since it is close to them. I would google Norris for fishing reports and see what you get, GL.

Norris is an excellent fishery. I've never fished it but one of my co-workers does and he has sent me lots of pictures and we have compared enough notes to confidently report. I use the same technique on Tims Ford as he does on Norris. He has caught a lot of stripers, catfish, walleye, smallmouth and crappie every year. One way to fish it in June is to put out a green fishing light and a floating fishing light near some structure close to the channel and prepare to spend the night. Use 20-30lb braid, a snagging hook or spoon, and hang on.

Thanks to everybody that answered. It's helped significantly! Gonna try and do so more research some more but if not just gonna get on the lake do my best. That's what separates the great fishermen from the good fishermen so well see!
