Had a fun Monday catching hybrids and rockfish. Caught 5 or 6 today along with several cats. Swimbait on the hybrid and live skipjack on the rockfish. Cut skips for the cats. http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/09/28/686d3d2201226ed8ffda02b06151016f.jpg

Thanks XxthejuicexX for steering me to tapatalk. I'll eventually get the hang of using it to post pics.

You are welcome sir! Looks like a great day on the water. I'm a little jealous seeing the size of those hybrids. You think it's safe to fish out of a yak below the dam?

Have never put my kayak in down there but have thought about it several times. Wouldn't be safe where the hybrid was hooked today.

They'll find the body somewhere around Barkley and the Yak just before it goes through to the Ohio.

nice catch man, below cheatham is one of my favorite spots (as most people on here may probably have figured out haha) i sometimes drift from right up at the outlet to just past the lock or anchor next to the outlet or where the flow comes out from when they release the water in the lock using live skipjack.
unfortunatly im in louisana for a month training :( so its bittersweet to see all these reports of fish haha. hopefully conditions are still good when im back in november, may have to relearn a bit

If you fish any on Mondays I'll see you down there. We spend a lot of time there from Christmas thru the end of February catching big white bass. Around the middle of November it starts getting good for sauger at night if you can stand it.

At what point do the white bass start getting active? What are patterns for them? I've been below Cheatham a little farther down river where it turns into a straightaway in January. We were focusing on eddies off of the main river and throwing 5/8 oz jig heads with chartreause curly tail. caught a bunch of em

I've been fishing the whites down there for almost 30 yrs. They can start as early as mid November but usually it gets good around Christmas and continues thru mid April. I have thrown the same basic 1/8 ounce tube jig as long as I've been fishing down there. It takes a lot of patience to fish that small jig in deep water but it's killer when they are shallow. Some days they hit a crankbait, other days I use a scrounger-head with a very small swim bait but I always start with the tube jig and 6 or 8lb test. Sometimes I go as small as 4lb.

I forgot to mention that eddies on the main river are where they congregate so you are doing the right thing. I catch most of them on mud banks versus rock. When the water gets real high the creeks are often very good.

Do you ever notice them ABOVE Cheatham dam? Or is it mostly below the dam

We catch some white bass, hybrids, and stripers above the dam on the river but they are accidents caught while bass fishing.
