Took the kayak out on JPP again Friday morning. Beautiful day before the rain moved in. Been reading all the posts and trying to imagine I know how to catch my first striper. Trolling live bait (a bream) in over about 30' of water when I saw a ton of motion on the fish finder, - like a tornado shifting around. Within seconds the water 20' around me exploded with fish chasing bait. I put on a plastic-shad-looking bait and reeled it quick across the surface. A fish took it down first cast, and I landed a nice 17" largemouth. Was expecting a striper? Anyone know if largemouth school like that in Priest? Or was he hanging out with his cousins? Thanks and good luck.

Yes, the largemouth in Priest do travel in large schools. When you find an active feeding school, one can catch 30+ fish in an hour.

makes ya feel like a pro when ya get em cast after cast after cast!

It can bring out the "buck fever" for sure, birds nests and the 5' SMACK cast are 2 of the 3 usual outcomes.

HaHa. Nothing like dropping one rod to pick up the top water and just making a monster birds nest on the first cast.
