The first 2 shots are white bass in the jumps I know for sure.

The next shot I caught several catfish trolling.

All of the shots are cool but I really like the Gar shots. You can really tell what it is. I need me some side imaging! I love my Lawrence units but think I will get one or two of the Helix 7's this fall.

Yeah ive looked at those online as well. I certainly want a 7" screen at the bare minimum.

I don't get hung up on brand...as all of them are good and will change the way one fishes....but I tell everyone to get as big a screen as you can afford. Put the money out for screen size until it hurts...then pay out some more for even more screen size making it really hurt....LOL.

I agree but I think the Helix 7 is tough to beat for the money.

Oh for sure.....a lot of bang for the buck there. I was going to put that on my boat if I had to have a front and rear sonar.

When is it suppose to be in stores?
Ive looked at some other clearance units at several Academys but they werent hooked up so i couldnt check them out in demo mode and nobody could help me.
Would much prefer to have a 7" screen though.

First of October. I think I will keep the Lowrance up front and use the side imaging at the console. Trying to decide if I get a whole other unit for the yak or just a transducer and cables. I think the cables and transducer are almost 400 bucks.

This is what I am thinking. I will get the HDS 7 Gen3 and mount it on the front of my boat by the trolling motor. (I currently have an Elite 7 HDI there now) Mount the transducers on the back of the boat. Connect my 10 " tablet via the GoFree app to my HDS unit and BAM I now have a 10" HDS unit at the console. I have looked into sun shades for the tablet and mounting hardware and can get all that for less than $75. So I basically end up with 2 HDS units for the price of one.

I'm amazed at what Lowrance wants for their gen3.

I'm about to pull the trigger on a DragonFly 4-Pro.

Wi-fi connect to my iPad running Navionics and get bathymotrey charting overlaid: big screen, small screen slaving.

I just can't see the $1,300 (for the SMALL gen3 unit)

Raymarine's price is <$400.

You aren't comparing like units. It is like comparing a Ford 150 base trim model to a F150 Harley Davidson trim. A lot more flexibility and functionality in the HDS units. Just not basic sonar and down scan. If you have never used the touch screen then you don't realize just how much easier and user friendly it is to use over having to use the "buttons".

I'm comparing screen sizes and remote screen options. With input and transducer options comes price variance (consumer value). I'm simply sharing thoughts on the forum for others to consider; didn't mean to upset you.

Having spent 40 years on the ocean, Great Lakes, and inland fishing; I expect I've purchased and used every piece of electronics and manufacturer from radar, sonar, autopilot, NMEA networking, wireless networking and everything in between.

What functionality does the Harley package add?

Maybe the Harley package does add a tow bar so, like a Harley bike, it can be pulled rather than driven.

You didn't upset me. I went and checked it out. I am all about saving money. The DragonFly is much more like my Elite HDI than it is a HDS unit. I have everything on the Elite HDI that is on the DragonFly except for the ability to view on a mobile device. The Gen 3 not only has the ability to view on a mobile device but you can control the unit on the mobile device just as if you were on the controls of the device itself. You can link multiple HDS units together and share waypoints and mapping so you only have to buy one mapping card. The price becomes relevant to what you are wanting to do. Sort of like a laptop you just want to surf the internet and read email with versus one that you want to play graphic heavy games on.

Different units for doing different things. That is way both companies make them and are able to sale them.

I looked at the Helix 5 last night. The wide screen is nice but I will say I am glad I did not buy one without putting my eyes on it. I don't know much about the rods but academy has the Berkley E-Motion on clearance for 39.99 I think. They look pretty decent, especially for the price.
