JPP Sunday report

I put in at Long Hunter and started trolling and once again tried some new spots. Ended up with about 15 fish over half of them were white bass that I caught in the jumps between Four corners and Hong Kong Island. It was wild for 15 minutes or so. I caught all of them on zara spook type bait. After that I started trolling again and caught few catfish on small all white crankbait and more white bass, yellow bass and lost a 3lb LM as he jumped at the boat. No crappie trolling which was a surprise. I usually have some hit the rainbow like color crank I use. Gizzard shad pattern crank has been the most productive from what I can tell. I'll post a few scans later I took that were the white bass in the jumps. Fun to see whats on the screen and then bring them to the boat.

Ive been having a hard time finding crappies around there as well.
I dont know where they are all at or if its just a rough year for em.

Crappie are hard to come by even in my bamboo attractor sites. Previous years I have been able to catch all summer. Catch 2 or 5 but that is max.

Lately I have caught more on the 200 series bandits trolling. They can also be very color specific some days. Early mornings have been better than afternoons for me. Saturday morning I caught 9 in about two hours. Not great but not bad for late summer trolling the way it has been lately. The kicker was that not a single fish was under 13 inches. This was on Priest Saturday before the pleasure boaters had a chance to mess things up.

Im guessing its a "cycle" year for the crappies. With the amount of 9-9 1/2" fish i got late spring, at least in my areas, next year might be better.

Last year was a great year for me. Most fish over 12". This spring sucked. I did miss most of the spawn though.

Winter's not bad. I've got some deep spots on the river channel that I catch them on pretty often. I would think they would be there in the summer..... never fished them under the lights.

The thermocline is pretty high in the water column this year, especially in the bays. Usually it's down at 20 ft.
I've seen it as high as 12 feet in some bays. That is probably why the Bandit 200 is outperforming the deeper diving 300. I fish the 300 in seventeen FOW and will snag up at 14-15 ft. The 200 only gets down to about 10-11 ft.

Yes, my thinking exactly. Sometimes I will still use the 300 but with less line out so it won't dive as deep. I have a better selection of colors in my tacklebox in the 300 series.

For those that may not be aware, you can find out how deep you are diving by casting and gradually trolling water more shallow until you see your crank bouncing on the bottom. Careful though. It is also a great way to lose crank baits.
