That's a heck of a fish. I see in the comments the catch and release police are already showing up saying she should have been released because she's full of eggs. They don't know that landlocked Stripers can't successfully reproduce and they already want to bash him for keeping and mounting that trophy fish. Pitiful. The only comments on this story should be congratulating this guy for the historic catch.

That's the first thing I noticed too Jimmy. I'm sure people will find out where he lives and show up with Pitch forks and torches. Hell of a fish, on 20lb and from the bank too. Alpha, you got that on 2 pound all day!

That's a tank! i seen it on FB yesterday. Another thing that the C&R police dont understand, is those stripers in that lake never should have been. there was some kind of delivery mistake. the "lake" thought they were getting walleyes so they instructed the delivery truck to make the delivery, he had stripers on there bound for another lake. Anyways, that was how many years ago and they havent stocked them since, but maybe one other time. Long and short of it, all those original fish are literally dying of old age anyways. i thought i read that they stocked more back a year or two ago, but i could have that wrong.
obviously it is big and looks big in the picture, but could you imagine having that bruiser in your grasp, how much larger it would be, they thing's gotta have golf balls for eye balls. just a huge huge fish.

They don't know that landlocked Stripers can't successfully reproduce.
That's not entirely true. They can't out here or shall I say most of the time can't under our usual conditions (leaving the possibility of a rare occurrence). Out west thought they do reproduce in some of the reservoirs in fact some lakes are so prolific you can't release them back or they have really high creels like the fish is a white bass here.
There could be more than one strain of them and that plays into the equation other than just landlocked and sea-goer.
That below sure is a beast of a fish. Congrats to him and I bet all the trout near by were Hi Finning watching that eating machine caught.

This is not quite a true statement (Speaking of Stripers on Old Hickory, Hey they are not hybrids, their natural instinct is to spawn ... Why do you think they swim upstream in the Spring ... Yep To spawn, and a false spawn in the Fall ... Kind of a false hatch like Turkeys ... The Rocks do the same thing in the Fall except they won't have row ) ... The TWRA biologist that I worked and spoke with in the 80's, 90's and early 2000 stated that about 5% actually reproduced in this fishery ... In A Heart Beat you can tell if a Big Sow has spawned ... But to reproduce you need the following ....
Now it has to be select waters ... They need 9 miles of hard current to keep the Fry tumbling before they can survive on their on... If the current is lost they drop to the bottom in the rocks ... Think about where their Journey ends after stopping by for a brief time at GSP ... They are looking for The perfect spawn temp ... 60 degree water and premo bait fish (Skippies) ... Just a heads up ..<'TK>< PHD in Piscatorial Paraphernalia and Scaly Face Psychology ...:)

Even if he caught it in the ocean where they absolutely can reproduce they still should shut up, quit being such whiny pansies about keeping a fish, and congratulate the guy on catching a fish like most of us never will.
Lately I can't decide if I hate Catch and Release Police more or poachers more.

Well, one is breaking a law, and the other has an opinion they are very outward about. In reality, you are the same as a catch and release police, just the opposite view that you are very passionate and outward about.

No, I'm outward to defend the people being chastised unnecessarily for doing something completely within the law. Look at any FB post by Wired2Fish or Field & Stream that is about a trophy being caught. The thread is full of jerkoffs blasting the angler for choosing to keep the fish. They are being outward, and mean, to these anglers for no reason. I think it's ridiculous. I know I'm the personality type to not keep my mouth shut, unless it's involving my career, but defending an angler who is 100% in the right to keep his/her trophy catch is something I do because what the angler did should go unpunished.

So we can count on a fish fry soon or what ..haha!
(I like it when others clean the fish and cook them)
