Courtesy Distance….and JPP report

JPP seems really bad this year for guys not respecting your space. I always try to maintain a 2 cast length distance from the nearest boat, and also try to project that going forward when trolling. I won't get into the horror stoires I have experienced just this week, but lets just say I wish everyone would do likewise. Crowding somebody off a spot or line, or moving in when you see them catch fish, is not only rude, it rarely works because you have no idea what lure or depth they were at. I understand the weekend can get crowded, but during the week - seriously - no need to act like a flock of seagulls….

Was out several days this week and the crappie are still biting but seem to be scattered. Seems like about 3 dinks for every keeper - should be a good season next year -but makes up for it because a lot of the keepers are running 12-14in. Stripers have been hitting good too. Water temp today mid lake was 67 degrees but an algea bloom is starting up.

Jeff, you need a special rig for those days. 65 lb braid with a super heavy duty rod and reel and a large lure with lots of trebles. Cast over their line by accident and retrieve the tangle to your boat. Cut their lure and drop it in the lake. Give them a lureless line back and continue fishing.
Repeat until they leave or shoot at you.

JPP boaters can be pretty bad about that, especially when it comes to respect for us kayak anglers. That's why I almost never fish that lake except in the Spring for the Crappie/Hybrid action. Sometimes I'll fish it in the Summer but I'm on the lake about 3am and off by 8 or 9, when they start showing up. Other than that, I take my yak to rivers, a neighborhood pond I like, and Williamsport. I don't have any issues at those places.

I really like JPP. For one its really close to the house and its nice to be on the water in just a few minutes. Another thing I like about it is the shoreline isn't developed. Its a pretty lake with lots of wildlife that you normally only see in wild places - got to see osprey fishing this week, and the loons are still migrating through too. I also like all the islands - makes for a lot of varied fishing. And the fishing is really, really good. I can go out just about anytime and catch a mess of crappie (my best day ever was in August last year) and bass, stripers is pretty good too. I generally only fish during the week, so the crowds aren't bothersome - sometimes during the week in the summer in the AM you might look out and not see another boat. (the nonsense seems to start up around 11) And in fact it was not overrun with boats this week, it just seems that there were a couple of boats that would have cast into my live well if I left the lid open….

Im a glutten for punishment. My #1 post spawn/summer crappie place is between 2 boat ramps. Hour after hour the same water skiers, knee boarders back and forth, back and forth. With is fine, its everybodies lake, but like you guys mentioned, how about a little personal space? There is 200 yards between me fishing and the next bank yet they still feel the need to run 40ft from ya. Lol.
I vent about it every year! lol. Yet day after day i keep going back! lol

I had the same experience with 2 kayaks coming within 15 yards of my boat while I was catching fish a couple weeks ago. They proceeded to throw at the same exact place I was fishing. It's not only the bass boats...
I wasn't sure if they thought b/c they were in a kayak that normal boating etiquette didn't apply. If you're fishing kayaks and want the same respect as a big boat be prepared to offer the same courtesy in return.

I agree with all said above. I was working a small pocket 30 yards by 30 yards last week and had two guys come right up on me expecting me to move. It wasn't going to happen. I held my ground while they both got within 30' of me "to close for comfort" and in the pocket I was working. I stopped fishing and just stared at them thinking "should I really let them know what I'm thinking?" I just sat there and waited until they moved on.

Give everyone space, and please be courteous, you never know when someone is going to be in a bad mood anyway and take it out on you.

I've done the whole launch A-Rigs at boats and purposely cast over someones line to snag and cut them off, and had cover during those times. Last week I had no cover.

It's only going to get worse as we move into the summer.

Agreed, kayaks or boats or bank fisherman, there are people who don't give a darn and will crowd you out of all three groups

Recently, 4 bank fisherman moved in on me catching hybrids. I was not close to them, but they saw me catching hybrids. They almost ran through the water in their waders, and starting throwing to where I was catching hybrids. They made so much noise I knew they were going to spook the fish and they did. I moved out to where they had been and started catching more hybrids. I heard one say I am too tired to go back and we shouldn't have moved. Exactly what I was thinking.

The ones that always make me frustrated happen on the Caney.

I will be out wading and fishing a run then a drift boat comes through and fishes through the run while I have to stand/watch (I do understand there are limited options in certain spots to pass). If they would just say "hey sorry but I need to pass" and float through it is no issue. Don't fish your way through instead wait the short distance then fish on the other side downstream.

Usually, I get some justice because they will end up anchored on a hole and rec boats float all through their lines while they complain to me as I pass about "river" etiquette.

Not throwing all drift boats under the bus but that is where my issue's seem to come out of on the Caney.

On a recent trip down the Duck in my yak, I saw a wader fishing by himself right near the Normandy bridge.

Gave him a wide berth, lifted my paddle out of the water and asked him if it was going well as I floated by.

He said "It was..." and stomped off.

What else can you do when you try to show respect and other fishermen are still pissed about it?

Other waders that I passed and even tried to maneuver behind said "it's cool, come on through!"

For the last two weeks as I visited a Md TN dam, a fella in a belly boat paddled around backwards and in a large circle.... eventually right in front of me. Did not acknowledge me or anything. Just kep fishing.

The first time I kind of laughed. The second time I tried to snag his tube.

If you've every been below OH in the summer with the generators on and a line of bank fisherman, you learn quickly to respect the guy with the 3 oz wieght and a huge a** hook . I've seen some disrespectful fisherman get clothes lined.

There is a sublte cadence and rythm to fishing together. Sometimes it is leveled up with a three oz sinker and a surf rod.

Some people wake in the morning and the day's is just beginning with a whole day ahead of them while others hit the floor in the mornings already behind and the day's wasting away.

I find most people disgruntled are the latter of those two.

Was out today for a few hours and it was like a different lake. Nobody came close at all, nor did i see anyone bunched up like seagulls…

Pulled crappie cranks and ended up with 8 keepers 11-14 inch, x2 shorts, a few nice largemouth, and several bluegill. Hardly any whites or stripes though. None of the bass had those black blotches (we call it fish AIDS :eek: )

Found most of them around 14ft but near the channel. Water temp 67 degrees.

So "funny" how other fishermen get your gps coordinates. Monday, one let the wind almost blow into my boat. " Excuse me did not realize how close I was." Did u get it marked. He admitted he did. Another got close and marked.
Today, one dude marked in square. Easy then to go to center. Then there are the trolling encroachers.
Just the way it is.
Also, With side imaging there are no secrets. 😜

twice last year we had this happen..catfishing our point last year and here comes mr Bass fisherman..in between my boat and the bank.."Im just gonna hit this spot and be out of yall boys way here"..oh he didnt like what i had to say.:p
Then we fished in the middle of a cove in the channel..anchored down and got to fishing..a Bass fisherman from 70 yrds fishing the bank yells"you must have a real good spot!!" I said "buddy you can cast and reel,cast and reel,all along those banks there..we are out here in this channel cat fishing..you can have all those lil bass you want to catch and release(ugh).."...he shut up and went on fishing.:p

A few weeks ago my wife and I were trolling and you would think boaters would know that a slow moving boat with poles hanging off the side means we have lines behind us trolling. We trolled across a small fork and a I hooked up. I was was reeling a fish in it was breaking the surface and they kept creeping up from the side and nearly ran my line over and looking pissed because they had to wait.

Then as we were heading in we were still trolling shallow with the motor at idle speed. As we passed by some bass guys with lots of room they decided they were leaving. I made it very clear that we were trolling shallow and how far behind the line was. They proceeded anyways behind crossing in the first 1/3 of our lines. They hit my line giving it a good tug, then crossed my wife's line nearly ripping they pole out of the holder before breaking the 80lb braid. I didn't say anything to them because to be honest I hope they wrapped their lower end. If you're going to be that blatantly disrespectful I'll let events take there course.

The Most I have seen are rude Tourney fishermen and YES that includes
a day where a Hook1 labeled boat was a Bonehead by rushing in a bay while us normal folks were fishing then powering out cause he is...a bonehead same thing happened with a Tailwater Marine labeled boat While I was in the market.
But its ok cause I will never buy a boat from "Tailwater marine" I was just on the cusp of getting a loan for one there and breaking the bank.

Thank God In the same Bay as the dumb Head Hook1 guy he just about swamped me.

Yeah, I don't think I could get my Lure 11.5 going fast enough to swamp someone. I might be able to do a cannonball off it and get you wet :)
