I went to Nickajack thinking the crappie would be in my spring spots....they were not. Talked to my buddies there and they are fishing everyday and tell me any day now they will show in mass. A fellow fishingtn member was in his boat fishing the same area. It was jaycee. He did not have much luck so as he was pulling his boat out I went over to just to talk about how bad the fishing was...LOL. jaycee asked if I wanted to go with him over to Battle Creek. I have been wanting to fish there for years. Every time I go to Nickajack and drive over the bridge I see Battle Creek and always wonder how the fishing is in there. We went into the creek a little ways and jaycee pulled on a spot he was hoping would still be holding white bass....and it was. Fishing was slow there....but steady. We only stayed there a short while.....I think we were both tired from the drive and several hours of fishing and coming up short on the crappie. I hooked 4 whites and landed 3. The one that came unbuttoned was a large fish. The one pic I took is the only big one I landed....probably a 15 inch fish or better. These fish had my UL rod bent and they were digging....a really good fight. Catching 3 fish may not sound like much but when you have driven 120 miles and the areas you fished were void of anything, catching 3 white bass sure made one feel a little better. I am sure had we fished a couple of hours we could have both limited out. jaycee did get a 13 inch crappie in our crappie hole and as one who has caught tons of crappie it was the biggest 13 inch crappie I have ever seen. It had huge shoulders....looking at it in the live well it looked like a very chunky large mouth. jaycee had several whites up in his live well also. So once again "thanks jaycee".
