Went to Pickwick today. Output is 150,000 CFS. Found the white bass behind a break water by the boat ramp down stream. The breakwater is under water but provides a good cut back for the white bass. Had a couple of Kentucky's also. All fish caught on a Millie Trout Magnet or a Percy Slab Magnet using 2# test SOS line with a Major Craft Truzer Ajing UL rod. Kept a limit but when the day was done the clicker said 100. These were cookie cutter fish...not the usual white bass I am looking for down there....all close or at the 13 inch mark..but a lot of fun. One guy cleaned some fish there and while most of the fish were males the few that had eggs had no blood lines in them yet...or just a little red to them. But I would think within one to two weeks the spawn will happen quick. The Spots were at 13 inch mark also...although caught some at the 8 inch mark. I hit the road for the long drive home. Also stopped by Williamsport just to see how much the water had warmed in 6 days. It seems quite a bit. The crappie are stacked on the edge of the dam on the small ledges about 15 feet out from the bank. Caught 6 crappie and came on in. As usual the Williamsport crappie have no size to them but with their move up it means the shell cracker and bluegill will be right behind them...my guess is one week from today. For you bass guys that fish Williamsport IMHO this Sunday will be a great day for catching some large mouth.

Very impressive day! I'm sure every fish you catch is a hell of a fight on the 2lb and the rods you have.

Thanks guys. I know I talk a lot about these rods from Japan but I hope sometime I can show you these things. Even though I have fished with them enough to know the tips are not going to break I still can't believe how small these tips are yet can handle those fish...and better yet when you drag it across something and get hung and you put pressure on the rod unto you realize you are hung just how much bend these things can take. But anyway Pickwick is in the process of busting wide open. I don't have a clue when they will slow the flow down but it is on and I am going to wear it out down there. Calling for storms until Sunday but then it looks like 4 straight days of good weather. Then next week me and my nephew will hit Nickajack for some slab crappies.

Sounds like a great day! Figured it was about time for you to bust the fishing wide open for the year. Looking forward to seeing lots more fish pictures this spring!

Boom!
Been waiting to see a great report like this Alpha. What type jig head are you advising with the slab magnet on the 2lb SOS? Been using it lately and really like casting distance and manageability of it. Congrats a great trip today.

Thanks for the encouraging words. As I have told browntrout I hope to make this "The spring of all springs". With the new pedal drive kayak I think it will be.

Thanks Andy. I really like it on the 1/8 ounce Double Cross for most situations but today I went with a 3/32 head as it seemed to get me more bites. These fish were just up off the rocks on the bottom....probably looking for crawfish. I know they smacked it hard....then the drag would be screaming. Want to go back tomorrow as weather report is calling for just 30 percent chance of storms there...but I got to tell you the older I get the more these long drives tire me out....LOL.
