Strikeout 1 - Went back to Scotts Gulf last Saturday to try and duplicate my Musky Miracle. Road in to the trail heads had been blocked by downed trees but was now clear, although roadsides now lined with downed trees. River had come down from flash flood but is still moving a lot of water.

And still up in the trees at the bottom - no series of rapids and pools as usual - just a long fast moving current. Usual places I stand were under water - forced to fish from muddy humps.

needless to say no fish - but still had a nice picnic at the bottom.

Jeffs hiking tip of the day - telescoping wiener sticks makes for an easy picnic lunch on the trail.

Oh yeah - edited to add - ran into a lost hiker at the bottom. Had taken the Virgin Falls trail down and had somehow lost the trail, and was wandering around at the bottom sunset coming on. I think there are only 3 trails out in about a 15 mile section, he had lost one and walked by another without recognizing it. and was heading up river. We walked him out then drove him back to his car… If you go - bring a map and compass - no cell service down there..

Went back to Caney Form yesterday (3/10) to try for Walleye at Rock Island.

Didn't figure I could hold the boat in all the current so opted for another bank excursion.

My buddy on the slippery hike down to Blue Hole. Basically like walking down a waterfall.

Again - moving too fast - really nowhere to stand.

Felt a little better as I watched an otter working the beach area farther down and he got skunked too..

Strike Out 3 - stopped on the way home to try for trout below the dam. 3 hours - one little strike. It is really high and fast

Its still fun area to fish because its so pretty, but looking forward for this rain to move through and things getting back to at least semi normal.

Looks like the Caney will be generating awhile with that much water coming down the pipe.

Great pics though. I have only been to the Blue Hole area once and I enjoy the Gulf area.

Beautiful pictures! Do you typically have luck with the Walleye run upstream this time of year? I wanted to try it from my kayak last Spring but with so much work travel last Spring I only had a few chances to fish so I didn't want to make that long of a drive for a species I'm not too savvy on how to catch.

I stayed local and chased species I have more experience with instead!

I did not know that Carp are in the Caney.

Wish I could tell you I'm a Caney Walleye expert but I'm not. Although been catching walleye all my life, we just moved to TN in 012 and just now getting around to fishing for them here. Have made a couple of scouting trips to the area: both at Rock Island and the Warren County ramp, and talked with the locals as they came in. They are catching them ( as big as 10lbs) by bumping minnow tipped jigs off the bottom. Was gonna hit it earlier then we got the ice/snow, and now we have the current, but if things clear will be dragging my boat up there next week, and hopefully can post a more positive report.
